Purple Warranty Explained: 10 Years, Law Tags and Frame Rules

Purple's 10-year mattress warranty has the most specific frame requirements in the industry, and two exclusions — the law tag and using the mattress uncovered — that catch people out.

    Key Takeaways

10-year mattress warranty for the original purchaser
Slats no more than 3.5" apart, plus centre support and 5–6 legs on queen and larger
Impressions under 1.0" are excluded as normal wear
The law tag must be intact for a claim to be processed
Transportation is the purchaser's cost after the first 100 days

Purple warrants its mattresses for ten years from the original purchase date, and will repair or replace a defective mattress at no additional charge during that period. The conditions attached are unusually specific, which is a good thing if you meet them and an expensive thing if you do not.

THE FRAME AND FOUNDATION RULES. A proper bed frame must provide sturdy support for the mattress, sleepers and foundation, include a centre support, and have at least 5–6 legs for queen, king and Cal king, or 4 legs for twin and full. If you use a slatted bed frame with no additional foundation, slats must be no more than 3.5 inches apart — the tightest published limit among the major brands. A flat foundation must be firm, flat, non-spring construction, must be placed on a bed frame, and cannot be used directly on the floor.

THE SAG THRESHOLD. Purple excludes normal body impressions or indentations of less than 1.0", which sets the practical bar: an impression has to exceed one inch before it is treated as a defect. Measure with no weight on the mattress.

THE LAW TAG. Purple states plainly that the mattress law tag, usually sewn into the head or foot of the bed, must be intact for Purple or its third-party providers to process a claim. Do not cut it off.

KEEP IT COVERED. Purple's warranty is void if the mattress is not always covered in use, because UV light degrades the cushioning materials. A sheet or protector is not optional under this policy.

WHAT ELSE ENDS COVERAGE. The warranty terminates if the mattress is resold or donated by the original purchaser, if it is used outside normal in-home consumer use, or if it is used outside the USA. It is non-transferable.

WHO PAYS. For any valid claim made more than 100 days after the original purchase date, transportation costs associated with the repair or replacement are the purchaser's responsibility. Ask for the figure before you agree to collection.
