Saatva Warranty Explained: Friends for Life, Fees and Fine Print

Saatva's lifetime warranty is genuinely generous for two years, then becomes a repair-and-re-cover service with a $149 fee — and the frame under the bed decides whether any of it applies.

    Key Takeaways

Lifetime warranty for the original purchaser only
Years 1–2: free replacement of a defective mattress
Year 3 onward: repair and re-cover for a $149 processing fee
Fairness Replacement Option: 40/60/80% of retail plus $99, usable once
Queen and larger on a standard frame need 5–6 legs and vertical centre support

Saatva calls it the Friends for Life warranty, and it lasts as long as the original purchaser owns the mattress. What changes over time is what Saatva does about a defect and what it costs you.

YEARS 1–2: FULL REPLACEMENT. If the mattress is deemed defective in the first two years, Saatva replaces it with a new one at absolutely no charge.

YEAR 3 ONWARD: REPAIR AND RE-COVER FOR $149. From the third year, Saatva completely repairs and re-covers your mattress and you pay a $149 processing fee. That is the whole remedy — not a new mattress, a rebuilt one.

THE FAIRNESS REPLACEMENT OPTION. Separately, and at your option, Saatva will sell you a replacement of the same model, size and comfort level at a discount while you keep the original mattress: 40% of full retail in years 3–5, 60% in years 6–10 and 80% in years 11–15, plus a $99 processing fee. It can be used once per customer, and the replacement is final sale with no new 365-night trial.

THE FOUNDATION RULES THAT DECIDE EVERYTHING. Saatva's warranty stays valid on a platform bed with a solid surface or slats spaced less than 4" apart, with a centre support on queen and larger, and on an adjustable base. On a standard frame the warranty is void unless a queen or larger sits on a 5- or 6-legged frame with vertical centre support; a twin or full is fine on a 4-legged metal frame. For Zenhaven, a solid surface such as plywood or masonite over the slats is required, and Saatva strongly recommends the same for the HD.

WHAT VOIDS IT. The warranty does not apply if the mattress has been stained, burned or otherwise abused, damaged or tampered with, and it is valid only for the original purchaser. Claims must be notified to Saatva in writing.

OUR READ. The first two years are as good as it gets in this category. After that the honest description is a discounted repair or upgrade programme rather than free replacement — which is still better than most, but it is not the same thing as a lifetime free replacement, and the fee structure is worth understanding before you buy the frame.
