    Best Mattresses of 2026

The DreamCloud Premier is our best mattress overall for 2026: it holds the highest score on this list (9.6/10) at $1,099 Queen, with no weak category across cooling, pressure relief, motion isolation and edge support. No single mattress suits everyone, so each award below goes to the model that wins the category score that matters for that sleeper.

Our lab has evaluated 500+ products since launch. These are the 10 best mattresses for most shoppers in 2026 — ranked by comfort, support, durability, and value. The ultra-luxury $5,000+ beds below score even higher in raw points, but they're not the right pick for most shoppers.

    Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX

The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX combines the collection's signature ThermoCool and ThermoPhase cooling technology with naturally breathable Talalay latex for a uniquely responsive, cool-sleeping experience. Where the standard ThermoBalance uses all-foam comfort layers, the LX swaps in Talalay latex for a bouncier, more responsive feel that also happens to be one of the most durable materials in the mattress industry. It's ideal for sleepers who want cooling tech but prefer the springy, lifted feel of latex over the slow hug of memory foam.

The Highest-Scoring Mattresses in Our Database

The Vispring Diamond Majesty has the highest raw score in our database (9.8/10), while the DreamCloud Premier is our #1 recommendation for most shoppers after factoring in price and value. These hand-built luxury beds earn their marks, but their $44,000 price puts them in a different category than the mainstream picks above.

How We Chose the Best Mattresses

Every mattress in our database is scored on the same 9 weighted factors, on a 110 scale. The overall score decides the ranked order on this page; the individual category scores decide which mattress wins which award, because the factor that matters most changes with the sleeper.

    Cooling18% of score
    Motion Transfer14% of score
    Pressure Relief14% of score
    Edge Support12% of score
    Response Time10% of score
Sex / Combo Sleep8% of score
    Off-Gassing8% of score
    Durability Simulation8% of score
    Company / Trust8% of score

A side sleeper should weight pressure relief heavily and can tolerate an average edge score; a couple sharing a bed should look at motion transfer first; a sleeper over 230 lb should read support, edge support and durability before anything else. Where a mattress has not completed our physical lab protocol, its review says so plainly and the score reflects a research evaluation of the manufacturer's published construction rather than measurements we took ourselves.

    How to Choose a Mattress

    Mattress type

Hybrids pair a foam comfort layer with pocketed coils and suit most shoppers. Memory foam contours deepest and isolates motion best. Latex is the most responsive and typically the longest-lived. Innerspring is the firmest and cheapest, with the least pressure relief.

    Firmness and sleep position

Side sleepers usually land between 4 and 6 on our scale, back sleepers 6 to 7, stomach sleepers 7 or firmer. Combination sleepers do best on a responsive surface that is easy to move on rather than one that hugs.

    Body weight

Heavier sleepers compress a mattress further, so a bed feels softer than its rating and needs a stronger support core. Lighter sleepers often need to go a point softer than the label suggests to get any contouring at all.

    Cooling

Coils move air, foam traps it. If you sleep hot, favour a hybrid or latex build, or a foam bed with a phase-change cover — and check the cooling score rather than the marketing name.

    Motion isolation and edge support

Motion isolation matters when you share a bed; memory foam leads here. Edge support matters if you sit on the edge, sleep near it, or get in and out with difficulty; hybrids with reinforced perimeters lead here.

    Trial, returns and warranty

Bodies need two to four weeks to adapt, so a trial of at least 100 nights is worth having. Read whether returns are free, and whether the warranty is prorated and what impression depth it covers.

    Best Mattress FAQs

What is the best mattress of 2026?

Based on our standardized scoring of the mattresses in our database, the top-rated mattresses of 2026 combine superior comfort, support, cooling, and durability. Our picks include options for every sleep style and budget.

    How do you test mattresses?

We test mattresses in our Encinitas lab using pressure mapping, motion-transfer sensors, edge-support measurements, surface-temperature testing and construction inspection, plus long-term sleep testing where we hold a unit long enough. Testing duration varies by model and is stated on the individual review.

How much should I spend on a mattress?

A quality mattress typically costs between $800 and $2,000 for a queen size. Budget options under $600 can still perform well, while luxury mattresses over $2,000 offer premium materials and longer lifespans.

How often should you replace a mattress?

Most mattresses should be replaced every 7-10 years, though high-quality latex and innerspring mattresses can last up to 15 years with proper care.

    What mattress firmness is best?

There is no single best firmness — it depends on your sleep position and body weight. Side sleepers are usually best served between 4 and 6 on a 10-point scale, back sleepers around 6 to 7, and stomach sleepers 7 or firmer so the hips stay level. Heavier sleepers compress a mattress more, so they typically need to move about a point firmer than a lighter sleeper in the same position.

What mattress type lasts the longest?

Natural latex generally has the longest usable life, commonly 10-15 years, followed by hybrids with pocketed coils. All-foam mattresses tend to soften soonest because the comfort foam carries the load directly. Whatever the type, density of the comfort layer and the quality of the support core matter more than the category label.

Is a more expensive mattress necessarily better?

No. Price buys better materials and longer warranties up to a point, but above roughly $2,000 for a queen the gains are mostly in finish, natural materials and hand-built construction rather than in comfort or support. Several of our highest-scoring picks sit well under that figure, which is why we award Best Value separately from Best Overall.
