Woollux Mattress Review: Is a Wool-Only Bed Right for You?

Woollux makes traditional hand-tufted mattresses with wool filling rather than memory foam, latex or innersprings. If you are looking for a completely different sleeping surface, this is a serious candidate to research—but material preference alone cannot tell you how well it will work for your body.

How this review was produced

Sleep Sage examined Woollux's official product information, policies and FAQ on October 10, 2026. This is not a hands-on test. We have no instrumented pressure, cooling, edge-support, motion-isolation, firmness or durability measurements for these mattresses. Sleeper-fit suggestions below are reasoned inferences, not tested performance ratings.

The short verdict

Worth considering: a shopper who specifically wants a foam-free, latex-free, spring-free natural-wool fill, appreciates a firm and grounded sleep surface, or needs custom dimensions. Likely not ideal: people who want deep body contouring, a long risk-free sleep trial, or coil-reinforced edge support.

Big purchase warning: Woollux says the wool settles about 10–15% over the first months. Standard-size returns are conditional and limited to 30 days; custom and personalized mattresses are not returnable. Carefully confirm your configuration and policy before ordering.

Materials, certification and what to expect

Natural wool, not a coil or foam hybrid

Woollux says it fills its mattresses with 100% natural wool, hand-tufts each made-to-order mattress in Bulgaria, and uses no polyurethane foam, latex, glue or springs. The maker offers OEKO-TEX-certified linen and virgin-wool covers and a GOTS-certified organic-cotton fabric option. The wool fill is described as OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100-certified.

Certification nuance: a certified material is not automatically a certified finished mattress. Woollux's description of a GOTS-certified cotton cover does not establish whole-mattress GOTS certification. Ask for a certificate tied to the particular material if this affects your decision.

A firmer, more traditional feel

Woollux describes 3 inches as the firmest and most minimal, 5 inches as a balance, and 7 inches as the most cushioned; 4- and 6-inch options are also listed, often preferred by side sleepers. Wool should not be expected to respond like slow-melting memory foam or lively latex. The feel will likely be denser and more on-top as the fill compresses. Actual perceived firmness depends on body weight, thickness and foundation—we cannot assign a defensible 1–10 firmness number without testing.

Moisture handling is not active cooling

Wool can absorb and release water vapor and allows air exchange, making it an interesting material for someone who dislikes a clammy foam surface. It does not actively remove heat like a powered bed-cooling system. We have no Woollux-specific temperature measurements, and a hot sleeper's sheets, protector, bed base, bedroom and physiology still matter.

Normal settling and care

Woollux estimates 10–15% settling during the first few months and says its mattresses are overfilled to compensate. Its guidance calls for rotating and flipping monthly, blotting spills, and avoiding soaking the fill. Slatted bases should have gaps of no more than 2 inches (5 cm); when used on the floor, lift the mattress regularly to air its underside.

Best fit by sleep position

  • Back sleepers: if you prefer stable, relatively flat support without foam sink, wool could appeal. Lumbar comfort still needs individual evaluation.
  • Stomach sleepers: the firmer surface may be attractive for reducing deep pelvic sink, but no measured alignment result is available.
  • Side sleepers: compare the maker's more cushioned 7-inch option, and be aware that some side sleepers need more give at the shoulder and hip than compressed wool provides.
  • Couples: consider the split design for handling large beds; do not assume it offers separately adjustable firmness. Confirm dimensions and joining method.
  • Higher-weight sleepers: verify expected settling, approved load and desired depth with Woollux. No responsible weight cutoff can be inferred without load-testing data.

Should you try the Woollux topper first?

A wool topper can change the surface feel and moisture management of a mattress you already own without replacing the core. It cannot restore support to a sagging bed, and it should not be compared as if it were a standalone wool mattress. Woollux also sells wool protectors and other bedding. Confirm which exact product, cover, thickness and care instructions are in your cart.

Shipping, returns and warranty

  • Production: 7–10 business days is the maker's typical manufacture-before-shipment estimate; delivery time varies.
  • Delivery: Woollux advertises free worldwide shipping; check final terms for your destination.
  • Returns: eligible standard-size items may be requested for return within 30 days of delivery, subject to condition and packing rules. Custom and personalized products are ineligible. In ordinary return cases, buyers pay and arrange return shipping.
  • Warranty: five years on covered materials and workmanship defects. Natural wool compaction and ordinary wear are not equivalent to a defect.
  • Foundation: supportive wooden slats with gaps of 2 inches or less are preferred. Verify any unusual base or adjustable-bed setup with the manufacturer.

The main downside compared with many online mattresses is purchase flexibility. A 30-day conditional return window, customer-paid return freight and nonreturnable custom dimensions deserve extra attention when a wool bed's feel may change through the first months.

Woollux compared with other natural beds

Unlike the wool-and-latex mattress category, Woollux's standard fill does not rely on a latex support core. It also differs from wool-topped hybrids whose primary support is a spring system. Wool-only construction prioritizes natural fiber and a grounded surface, while a latex or coil hybrid may provide more rebound and familiar contouring. Neither construction is universally better.

Woollux questions answered

Is Woollux a latex-free mattress?

According to the maker, yes: its wool mattresses use wool fill, not latex, springs or synthetic foam. Confirm specifications for your chosen configuration.

Is Woollux certified organic?

It offers a GOTS-certified organic-cotton cover fabric. This is not proof of a whole-mattress organic certification.

Does a Woollux wool mattress get firmer?

Woollux states wool compresses approximately 10–15% during initial use. This can change the perceived feel and loft; rotate and flip according to its instructions.

Can I return a custom size?

No standard return right is advertised for custom or personalized Woollux orders. Confirm any exceptions with the seller before paying.

Have you physically slept on Woollux?

No. This is a documented research evaluation. We do not invent pressure, cooling or owner-experience measurements.
