Our Review
Avocado's mattress protector uses a plant-based polyurethane waterproof barrier instead of vinyl or PVC, paired with a GOTS-certified organic cotton jersey knit surface. It protects your mattress investment from spills and perspiration while maintaining breathability.
Our Hands-On Experience
The plant-based polyurethane membrane is the whole point. Vinyl and PVC protectors work, but they crinkle audibly, sleep hot and are exactly what people buying an organic mattress are trying to avoid. This one gets you waterproofing without that trade-off.
The organic cotton jersey surface makes it feel like part of the bed rather than a plastic layer. There is still a modest breathability cost — every waterproof barrier has one — but it was the least noticeable of the protectors we tested on a latex mattress.
Deep pockets fit thick mattresses properly, it is machine washable, and crucially it preserves the mattress warranty, which most manufacturers void on staining. At $149 it is expensive for a protector; the case for it is protecting a $2,000-plus organic mattress with a matching material standard.
