Buffy Eucalyptus Sheet Set Overview
Buffy Eucalyptus sheets use TENCEL Lyocell from sustainably harvested eucalyptus for a silk-like feel that's vegan and biodegradable. Our thermal testing confirmed 3°F cooler than cotton, making them ideal for eco-conscious hot sleepers.
Our Review
Buffy's eucalyptus sheets are made from TENCEL Lyocell, a fiber derived from sustainably harvested eucalyptus trees. The result is an impossibly smooth, cool-to-the-touch fabric that uses 10x less water than cotton. Perfect for eco-minded sleepers who want silk-like softness without the animal products.
Our Hands-On Experience
Buffy's eucalyptus sheets introduced me to TENCEL Lyocell as a bedding material, and I'm convinced it's underappreciated in the market. Made from sustainably harvested eucalyptus trees using a closed-loop solvent process, the fabric is genuinely silky smooth — closer to real silk than any cotton I've tested.
The cooling properties of eucalyptus lyocell are impressive. The fibers naturally absorb moisture and release it as vapor, creating an active cooling effect. In our thermal testing, Buffy's eucalyptus sheets were 3°F cooler than standard cotton sateen and comparable to bamboo alternatives.
The environmental story is compelling: eucalyptus trees grow quickly without irrigation or pesticides, and TENCEL's production uses 10x less water than cotton. The material is also fully biodegradable. For vegan shoppers avoiding silk, this is the closest feel without any animal products.
The 7-night trial is disappointingly short — the shortest in our testing lineup. This suggests less confidence in universal appeal, and the slippery-smooth texture does polarize people. Some testers found it too slick on the skin, like sleeping on a slip-and-slide. If you enjoy silky, smooth textures, you'll love these. If you prefer cotton's grip, try before committing.

Buffy Eucalyptus Sheet Set: Lab Results & Long-Term Testing
Tested September 3, 2026 by BT/MR. Verified on buffy.co on September 3, 2026.
Measured in our lab
Lyocell from eucalyptus, which uses a closed-loop solvent process — mechanically closer to bamboo viscose than to cotton.
| Metric | Result | Category avg. | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Airflow (CFM) | 46 | 48 | Average. Like bamboo, the cooling is moisture-driven. |
| Moisture dispersion (0.2 ml) | 13 sec | 26 sec | Second only to Cozy Earth in our set. |
| Contact temperature drop on touch | −3.0°F | −1.6°F | Cool-to-the-touch, measurably. |
| Shrinkage after 10 washes | 3.1% | 3.4% | Better wash stability than bamboo viscose. |
| Pilling after 10 washes | Very light | Light | Lyocell holds up better than viscose under the same abuse. |
Our long-term sleep log
Six months with a couple where one partner sleeps hot and one sleeps cold.
Week 1
Silky like bamboo but with a bit more body — less slippery.
Month 2
Hot partner reported fewer overheating wake-ups; cold partner found them chilly at lights-out and added a blanket.
Month 6
Minimal pilling, no thinning. Better durability than the bamboo set over the same period.
Care, washing & durability
Wash cold on gentle, tumble low, no softener, no bleach. Same rules as bamboo, with slightly more tolerance for error.
Buffy's environmental case — closed-loop solvent recovery and eucalyptus's low water use — is the strongest in our bedding set, and it doesn't cost you durability.
The bottom line
The pick if you want bamboo's moisture performance with better wash durability. Cool sleepers will find it too cold at bedtime.
How Sleep Sage Evaluates Bedding
When a bedding set enters our lab, our full testing protocol may include pressure mapping, temperature measurements, edge-support testing, motion-isolation testing and other performance measurements. The steps below describe that protocol — they are not a claim that every reviewed product has been through it.
For products labelled Research Evaluation, we have not completed that physical lab protocol. Those reviews are based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.
Lab Tested: This bedding set completed our physical testing protocol. The measurements published for it come from that testing.
Sleep Panel Testing
For bedding we physically test, our panel may include sleepers with different temperature preferences and skin sensitivities over multiple nights and wash cycles.
Breathability Testing
For bedding that enters our lab, our protocol may include standardized airflow and overnight skin-surface temperature measurements.
Fabric Hand-Feel Analysis
For physically tested bedding, softness, drape and texture may be evaluated through panel feedback and fabric-stiffness measurements.
Wash Durability
When wash durability is tested, our protocol may compare pilling, shrinkage, color fastness and hand-feel before and after repeated care cycles.
Value & Certification Review
For every evaluation, our value review may verify applicable certifications and compare price, warranty and return policies across the category.
