Yes, if the mattress is chosen for nightly use rather than the thin pad shipped with the cabinet. The mechanism has no bearing on feel once the bed is down. Most complaints trace to the 6 inch foam mattress included in budget kits, not to the Murphy design itself.
Quality piston and spring mechanisms are rated for 600-1,000 lb of static load once lowered onto the legs. The tighter limit is the mattress weight the lift is tuned to, typically 60-90 lb for a queen. Exceeding it makes the bed drop fast or refuse to stay up.
Gas pistons are quieter, adjust to mattress weight more predictably, and last around 10 years before they need replacing. Coil-spring systems are cheaper and effectively last forever but need retensioning as the mattress breaks in. For a bed used daily, pistons are worth the premium.
