Safety checklist before first night
Run every item; each addresses a documented failure mode.
- Age: children under 6 should not sleep on the top bunk — this is the standard pediatric recommendation.
- Ceiling clearance: leave enough headroom above the top mattress for a child to sit up without hitting the ceiling or a fan.
- Guardrails: both sides, gaps small, at least 5 inches above the mattress.
- Mattress thickness: at or below the frame's stated maximum, typically 6 inches.
- Hardware: tighten every bolt at assembly and re-check every few months, since bunk frames loosen with movement.
- Placement: away from ceiling fans, light fixtures and windows; nothing hanging from the rails.
