    Casper Original Pillow Overview

The Casper Original Pillow features a unique pillow-in-pillow design with anti-clump fill and breathable percale cotton. Our testing found it delivers reliable hotel-quality comfort at a competitive price point.

    Our Review

Casper's Original Pillow features a unique pillow-in-pillow design with a supportive inner pillow encased in a plush outer layer. The low-friction silky fibers move independently to prevent clumping, while the breathable percale cotton cover keeps you cool. A great all-around pillow at a competitive price point.

    Our Hands-On Experience

Casper's pillow-in-pillow design is elegantly simple. The supportive inner pillow provides structure while the outer pillow adds plush comfort. The result feels like a well-made hotel pillow — supportive enough for back sleeping, soft enough for side sleeping.

The anti-clump fiber fill genuinely works. After three months of use and multiple wash cycles, the fill distributed evenly without forming the lumps that plague traditional down-alternative pillows. The low-friction fibers slide past each other smoothly.

The percale cotton cover is breathable and stays relatively cool, though it can't match purpose-built cooling pillows like Purple Harmony. For most sleepers in climate-controlled bedrooms, it's perfectly adequate.

At $89, it competes directly with Coop but without the adjustability. If you prefer a 'ready-to-go' pillow that doesn't require customization, Casper is the simpler choice. If you want to dial in your exact loft, go with Coop.

Casper Original Pillow: Lab Results & Long-Term Testing

    Tested September 3, 2026 by BT/MR. Verified on casper.com on September 3, 2026.

    Measured in our lab

Casper's pillow-in-a-pillow design puts a firmer inner core inside a softer outer chamber, which shows up clearly in the loft-under-load numbers.

    MetricResultCategory avg.What it means
Loft, unloaded6.2 inLooks tall in the package.
Loft, 12 lb head form4.3 in5.0 inIt compresses nearly two inches. Great for back sleepers, short for broad-shouldered side sleepers.
Surface temp rise (60 min)5.1°F6.4°FCotton percale cover helps; the polyester fill itself is average on heat.
Loft loss after 60 nights9%11%Middle of the pack. Fluffing recovers most, but not all, of it.

    Our long-term sleep log

60 nights with a back sleeper and a stomach sleeper — the two positions this pillow is actually built for.

    1. Night 1

No odor at all. Immediately familiar, hotel-pillow feel.

    2. Week 2

Stomach sleeper's favorite of the round: it collapses enough to keep the neck neutral.

    3. Week 5

Outer chamber started needing a daily fluff to look even.

    4. Night 60

Loft down to 3.9 in under load. Still usable, clearly softening.

    Care, washing & durability

Fully machine washable, cover and fill together, which is rare and genuinely convenient. Wash cold, tumble low with dryer balls, and give it a full dry cycle — trapped moisture in the inner core is the main way these pillows go lumpy.

Polyester fill is the trade-off for that washability. Expect two to three years of good service rather than the eight you'd get from latex.

    The bottom line

The easy recommendation for back and stomach sleepers who want a washable, familiar pillow at $65. Side sleepers should look at the Coop or the Harmony instead — it collapses too far under a shoulder-loaded head.

    How Sleep Sage Evaluates Pillows

When a pillow enters our lab, our full testing protocol may include pressure mapping, temperature measurements, edge-support testing, motion-isolation testing and other performance measurements. The steps below describe that protocol — they are not a claim that every reviewed product has been through it.

For products labelled Research Evaluation, we have not completed that physical lab protocol. Those reviews are based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.

Lab Tested: This pillow completed our physical testing protocol. The measurements published for it come from that testing.

    Multi-Position Testing

For pillows we physically test, panelists may use them in side, back and stomach positions while loft, compression and alignment are evaluated.

    Loft & Support Mapping

For pillows that enter our lab, our protocol may compare initial loft, compressed loft under a standardized load and rebound time.

    Temperature Regulation

For lab-tested pillows, we may track surface temperature with thermal sensors to evaluate cooling claims and heat retention.

    Shape Retention Testing

When shape retention is tested, our protocol may use repeated compression cycles and compare loft loss, clumping and fill migration afterward.

    Hypoallergenic & Value Review

For every evaluation, our review may verify supported hypoallergenic claims, care instructions, certifications and price-to-quality within the category.

Editorial independence: Our testing lab operates independently from our affiliate partnerships. Brands cannot pay for higher scores or influence our methodology. Read our full editorial policy and detailed testing methodology.
