Our Expert Take
Presidents Day weekend is the traditional kickoff to the mattress sale season, and for good reason. After the post-holiday lull in January, brands are eager to drive Q1 numbers. The result: aggressive discounts that rival Memorial Day and sometimes approach Black Friday levels.
What makes Presidents Day uniquely valuable is the timing. Many brands launch new models at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January and want to clear previous-year inventory. This creates a dual opportunity: discounts on the current (soon-to-be-previous) model and introductory pricing on new models.
I scored my office testing mattress during Presidents Day 2025 — a Helix Midnight Luxe at 25% off plus free pillows. The deal was identical to what they later offered on Memorial Day, confirming that Presidents Day pricing is genuinely competitive.
If you've been sleeping on an old, worn-out mattress since the holidays, don't wait until Memorial Day. Presidents Day deals are just as good, and you'll get 3+ extra months of great sleep.
Pro tip: Presidents Day is when many brands launch new models — meaning last year's models may be clearance-priced at 40–60% off. Ask about discontinued model discounts for the best value.

Presidents Day Mattress Shopping Tips
Ask about previous-year model clearance. When new models launch in February/March, the outgoing versions drop to clearance pricing. These mattresses are identical in quality — just previous-year branding.
Presidents Day is the best time for in-store shopping. Retail stores use Presidents Day to draw foot traffic. In-store-only deals may include free adjustable bases, extra warranty, or financing not available online.
Compare Presidents Day prices to Black Friday prices. Our data shows most brands offer within 10% of their Black Friday pricing during Presidents Day. If you missed Black Friday, this is your recovery opportunity.
Sign up for brand newsletters by February 1. Early-access deals often arrive 3–5 days before the public sale begins, and email-exclusive codes may stack with sale prices.
Consider buying a mattress + bedding bundle. Brands like Saatva, DreamCloud, and Brooklinen often bundle sheets and pillows at steep combined discounts during Presidents Day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Presidents Day a good time to buy a mattress?
Yes. Presidents Day is one of the four major mattress sale events (along with Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Black Friday). Discounts average 30–45% off from DTC brands, with some deals approaching Black Friday levels. It's the best time to buy in Q1.
When do Presidents Day mattress sales start?
Presidents Day sales typically start 2 weeks before the holiday (early February) and extend through the week after. Some brands run abbreviated sales just for the holiday weekend, but most offer extended sale periods.
Are new mattress models better than last year's?
Usually the changes are incremental — updated covers, slightly different foam formulations, or new cooling technologies. If you can find last year's model at 40–50% off clearance pricing, it's often a better value than the new model at introductory pricing.
Should I wait for Memorial Day instead?
If you need a mattress now, buy it on Presidents Day. Our data shows Memorial Day discounts are only 5–10% better than Presidents Day, which isn't enough to justify 3 months of poor sleep. The difference amounts to $30–50 on most mattresses.
