Alpaca fiber is hollow, so it insulates without the density of sheep's wool. In practice this topper reads as a luxury comfort layer rather than a support fix: it adds loft and a cashmere-soft hand feel, but it will not correct a mattress that is fundamentally too firm.
Thermoregulation is the genuine standout. Across a cold February week and a warm test cycle with the room held at 74°F, testers described the surface as neutral in both — the property that makes wool worth paying for. It is also lanolin-free, which matters for sleepers who react to conventional wool.
At $934 this is a splurge, and it is spot-clean only. Wool compresses over time; expect to fluff and rotate it. Buy it if you already like your mattress and want a hotel-topper layer of plush comfort with real temperature control, not if you need structural change.
