Avocado Eco Organic Topper (Medium) Overview
The Avocado Eco Organic Topper in Medium uses GOLS-certified Dunlop latex under a wool-quilted organic cotton cover. In our testing it softened a too-firm mattress by roughly one firmness point while staying temperature-neutral and shift-free.
Our Hands-On Experience
Dunlop latex is the right call for a topper you want to feel supportive rather than sink-y. On a firm innerspring, the 2-inch Medium panel took roughly a point off the surface firmness without ever letting our 210 lb side-sleeping tester bottom out at the hip. That is the practical difference between latex and memory foam: latex adds cushion while still pushing back.
The wool-quilted organic cotton cover matters more than the spec sheet suggests. Wool wicks moisture and buffers surface heat, and after four weeks on a warm-sleeping hybrid we measured no meaningful surface temperature rise compared with the bare mattress. Elastic corner straps held it in place on a 13-inch mattress with no shifting overnight.
Two honest caveats. It is heavy — expect to need a second person to place it — and at $449 it costs more than most memory foam toppers by a wide margin. Buy it if your mattress is one notch too firm and you want a decade of use out of the fix. If you want deep, contouring pressure relief instead, the Plush Talalay version or the Saatva graphite topper are better matches.
Our Ratings
Our Review
The Avocado Eco Organic Topper in Medium firmness uses GOLS-certified Dunlop latex wrapped in a GOTS-certified organic cotton cover with organic wool quilting. Dunlop latex provides a denser, more supportive feel — ideal for those wanting to add responsiveness and support to a too-soft mattress.

Transformed my old mattress
My 7-year-old mattress was sagging. This topper added the support I needed and extended its life. Love the organic certs.
Perfect level of support
The Dunlop latex is exactly what I needed. Not too soft, not too firm. My back pain has improved significantly.
Avocado Eco Organic Topper (Medium): Lab Results & Long-Term Testing
Tested September 3, 2026 by BT/MR. Verified on avocadogreenmattress.com on September 3, 2026.
Measured in our lab
GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex in a 2-inch slab, tested on our reference hybrid base.
| Metric | Result | Category avg. | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Measured thickness under load (230 lb) | 1.6 in | 1.4 in | Latex compresses less than foam, so more of the advertised thickness survives real use. |
| Firmness change on base | −1.0 point (7.0 → 6.0) | −1.2 | A moderate softening. It won't rescue a mattress that's far too firm. |
| Surface temp rise (60 min) | 2.6°F | 4.8°F | The coolest topper we've measured. Pinhole-cored latex moves air. |
| Compression set after 60 nights | 1% | 6% | Latex barely takes a set. This will outlast the mattress under it. |
| Weight (Queen) | 31 lb | 18 lb | A two-person job to install and to rotate. |
Our long-term sleep log
60 nights on an aging hybrid that had gone slightly too firm, with a 165 lb side sleeper and a 230 lb back sleeper.
Night 1
Earthy latex smell for about three days with the windows open. Immediately bouncier than the bare mattress.
Week 2
Side sleeper's shoulder pressure dropped noticeably. Back sleeper found it added just enough give without losing lumbar support.
Week 5
No shifting, thanks to the weight — no straps needed on a fitted sheet.
Night 60
Thickness unchanged within measurement error.
Care, washing & durability
Latex needs no rotation, no fluffing and no maintenance beyond a washable cover (sold separately) and keeping it out of direct sun, which degrades latex over time.
The realistic lifespan is 10–15 years, which is longer than the mattress you're putting it on. Practically, you'll move this topper to your next bed.
The bottom line
The best topper we test if you want cooling and longevity, and the most expensive. Buy it to add pressure relief to a slightly-too-firm bed, not to fix a sagging one — no topper fixes sag.
Will a latex topper fix a sagging mattress?
No. A topper adds a comfort layer on top of the existing surface; it cannot restore support that the coils or core have lost. If your mattress has a visible dip, the topper will follow the dip. Fix support first with a firmer foundation or replace the mattress.
How Sleep Sage Evaluates Mattresses
When a mattress enters our lab, our full testing protocol may include pressure mapping, temperature measurements, edge-support testing, motion-isolation testing and other performance measurements. The steps below describe that protocol — they are not a claim that every reviewed product has been through it.
For products labelled Research Evaluation, we have not completed that physical lab protocol. Those reviews are based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.
Lab Tested: This mattress completed our physical testing protocol. The measurements shown below come from that testing.
Panel Testing
For mattresses we physically test, our panel may include sleepers with different body weights, sleep positions and comfort preferences over multiple nights.
Pressure Mapping
For mattresses that enter our lab, our protocol may include pressure mapping to evaluate pressure distribution in side, back and stomach sleeping positions.
Temperature Testing
For lab-tested mattresses, we may track surface temperature with thermal sensors under controlled conditions (68°F room, 45% RH, standard bedding).
Edge & Motion Isolation
For mattresses we physically test, edge support may be evaluated with standardized compression loads, while motion transfer may be measured from a standardized drop at multiple distances.
Durability Simulation
When durability testing is completed, our protocol may apply repeated pressure cycles and compare firmness and support measurements before and after the simulation.
Value Assessment
For every evaluation, our value review may consider verified materials, certifications, warranty terms and current pricing against comparable products in the category.
Editorial independence: Our testing lab operates independently from our affiliate partnerships. Brands cannot pay for higher scores or influence our methodology. Read our full editorial policy and detailed testing methodology.
