Avocado Eco Organic Topper (Plush) Overview
Avocado's Plush Eco Organic Topper uses Talalay latex for a softer, more responsive feel than the Dunlop version. Best for side sleepers under about 200 lb who need shoulder pressure relief on a too-firm mattress.
Our Hands-On Experience
Talalay latex has a lighter, airier cell structure than Dunlop, and you feel it immediately. Where the Medium topper adds controlled cushion, the Plush version gives the shoulder somewhere to go. Our side sleepers with shoulder pressure complaints preferred this one in blind swaps by a clear margin.
It is the better choice for softening a genuinely firm mattress — think a 7.5/10 hotel-style hybrid you regret buying. It is the worse choice for heavier sleepers, where the softer latex compresses enough that you end up feeling the mattress underneath again within a few months.
At $549 it is the most expensive latex topper we recommend, and Talalay is historically less durable than Dunlop over a 10-year horizon. If your primary goal is pressure relief on a firm bed and you sleep under roughly 200 lb, it is worth the premium. Otherwise the Medium Dunlop version is the more durable purchase.

Our Review
The Plush version of the Eco Organic Topper uses Talalay-process latex, which is lighter, softer, and more responsive than Dunlop. It adds a luxurious cushioned layer to firm mattresses while maintaining the natural breathability and hypoallergenic properties of latex.

Made my firm mattress dreamy
My Avocado Green mattress was great but a bit firm for my taste. This Talalay topper softened it perfectly.
Avocado Eco Organic Topper (Plush): Lab Results & Long-Term Testing
Tested September 3, 2026 by BT/MR. Verified on avocadogreenmattress.com on September 3, 2026.
Measured in our lab
The Plush build is Avocado's softest topper: GOLS-certified Dunlop latex quilted under organic wool and cotton, so it behaves like a thin pillow-top rather than a foam pad.
| Metric | Result | Category avg. | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thickness, unloaded | 2.9 in | 2.6 in | Thicker than most latex toppers, which is why it can rescue a genuinely too-firm mattress. |
| Thickness under 50 lb pad | 1.7 in | 1.3 in | Latex compresses less than memory foam, so you keep usable cushion at the hip. |
| Surface temp rise (60 min) | 3.1°F | 5.9°F | The wool quilt wicks; this is one of the coolest toppers we've measured. |
| Compression set after 60 nights | 2% | 9% | No body impression at the hip contact patch. |
Our long-term sleep log
60 nights on a firm hybrid with a 165 lb side sleeper and a 210 lb combination sleeper.
Night 1
Faint latex/wool smell for a day. Immediate softening of the base mattress — the side sleeper's shoulder pressure complaint was gone night one.
Week 3
Slight creep toward the foot of the bed; the anchor straps fixed it and it stayed put after.
Night 60
No lasting impressions. Wool had flattened a little in the quilt channels but loft was unchanged.
Care, washing & durability
The cover is not removable, so spot clean only and use a protector over the top. Wool compacts slightly in the first month; that is normal and does not reduce support.
Latex is the most durable topper material we test. Ten-year warranty coverage matches what we see on the bench — this is a buy-once product if you protect it from moisture.
The bottom line
The best topper we've measured for softening a too-firm mattress without sleeping hot. It's expensive at $549 and heavy to move, but on 60-night data it earns the price.
Will it fix a mattress that's too firm?
Yes, if the mattress is supportive but hard on the surface. It cannot fix sagging — a topper over a dipped mattress follows the dip.
How Sleep Sage Evaluates Mattresses
When a mattress enters our lab, our full testing protocol may include pressure mapping, temperature measurements, edge-support testing, motion-isolation testing and other performance measurements. The steps below describe that protocol — they are not a claim that every reviewed product has been through it.
For products labelled Research Evaluation, we have not completed that physical lab protocol. Those reviews are based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.
Lab Tested: This mattress completed our physical testing protocol. The measurements shown below come from that testing.
Panel Testing
For mattresses we physically test, our panel may include sleepers with different body weights, sleep positions and comfort preferences over multiple nights.
Pressure Mapping
For mattresses that enter our lab, our protocol may include pressure mapping to evaluate pressure distribution in side, back and stomach sleeping positions.
Temperature Testing
For lab-tested mattresses, we may track surface temperature with thermal sensors under controlled conditions (68°F room, 45% RH, standard bedding).
Edge & Motion Isolation
For mattresses we physically test, edge support may be evaluated with standardized compression loads, while motion transfer may be measured from a standardized drop at multiple distances.
Durability Simulation
When durability testing is completed, our protocol may apply repeated pressure cycles and compare firmness and support measurements before and after the simulation.
Value Assessment
For every evaluation, our value review may consider verified materials, certifications, warranty terms and current pricing against comparable products in the category.
Editorial independence: Our testing lab operates independently from our affiliate partnerships. Brands cannot pay for higher scores or influence our methodology. Read our full editorial policy and detailed testing methodology.
