Our Verdict
The Roma is the cheapest way we know to get real Talalay-and-Dunlop-grade latex under your body. It is a single 6-inch latex core in a stretch-knit cover, built so one side sleeps medium and the other sleeps firm — flip it and you have effectively bought two mattresses. Latex is the most durable comfort material in the industry, and Sleep EZ has been selling component latex out of Phoenix since 1976, which matters when you eventually want to swap a layer instead of replacing the bed. The catch is height: 7 inches works on a platform or slatted base but looks and feels thin on a tall bed frame, and heavier sleepers will want the taller Luxerion instead.
Ratings Breakdown
How we score (1–10 rubric) →Lab measurements: in the queue
The Sleep EZ Roma All-Latex Mattress has been slept on and scored by our testers, but it has not yet gone through the full instrumented protocol — pressure mapping, thermal imaging, motion transfer and edge-deflection loading. Rather than publish estimated numbers, we leave this table empty until the measurements exist.
Firmness Level
Medium-Firm (6.5/10)
What We Love
- Flippable — medium on one side, firm on the other, no extra cost
- Real latex durability: expect 12–15 years, not 6–8
- Naturally breathable open-cell structure sleeps cool
- Under $900 Queen is far below typical all-latex pricing
- Sleep EZ has sold component latex since 1976 and services layers directly
What Could Be Better
- 7 inches total — too thin for sleepers over about 230 lb
- 90-night trial is short next to the 365-night DTC standard
- Latex bounce transfers more motion than memory foam
- Return shipping on an all-latex bed is heavy and awkward
Best For
- Latex-curious buyers on a budget
- Platform and slat bases
- Hot sleepers
- Guest rooms that need to last
- Anyone who wants to change firmness later
Not Ideal For
- Heavier sleepers
- Tall bed frames where 7 inches looks lost
- Shoppers wanting a plush pillow-top feel
Mattress Construction
Stretch-Knit Cover
Thin, flexible cover that lets the latex do the contouring instead of fighting it
Dunlop Latex Core
6-inch core poured firmer on one face and softer on the other so the mattress can be flipped
Sleep Position Analysis
Side Sleepers
At 6.5/10 firmness, the Sleep EZ Roma All-Latex Mattress works well for average-weight side sleepers (130-230 lbs). Lighter side sleepers may want to consider a softer option for better shoulder cushioning, while heavier side sleepers will appreciate the balanced support.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers will find the Sleep EZ Roma All-Latex Mattress's 6.5/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature. Our back-sleeping testers rated this 8.9/10 for support.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers need a firmer surface to prevent hip sinkage and lower back strain. At 6.5/10, the Sleep EZ Roma All-Latex Mattress provides the flat, supportive surface stomach sleepers need. Our testers confirmed minimal hip depression during prone sleeping.
Combination Sleepers
The Sleep EZ Roma All-Latex Mattress's all-latex (dunlop) construction provides responsive support that adapts as you change positions throughout the night. The latex offers natural responsiveness for easy position changes. Combination sleepers rated this highly in our testing.
Which Sleep EZ Roma All-Latex Mattress Model Should You Buy?
Sleep EZ is a family-run latex builder that sells configurable layer stacks rather than finished mattresses. The Roma is the exception — a fixed, flippable, single-price latex bed and by far the cheapest way into real Talalay/Dunlop latex.

Latex firmness is famously hard to buy online because the material feels different from foam — it pushes back rather than sinking, so the number on the label rarely predicts how you'll experience it. The Roma sidesteps that by putting a firmer side and a softer side on the same mattress. If the side you started on is wrong, you flip it that night instead of arranging a return.
That also doubles the mattress's practical lifespan compared with a one-sided bed. When the side you sleep on develops any softening after years of use, the other side is untouched.
How the latex actually feels
Buoyant, not enveloping. You sleep on top of latex rather than in it, which combination sleepers strongly prefer and dedicated memory-foam fans usually dislike. Response is immediate — no hole to climb out of when you roll over.
It sleeps cool. Latex has an open-cell structure and Sleep EZ perforates its cores, so heat retention is a non-issue even without a cooling cover. That is the main reason latex buyers rarely go back to memory foam.
Durability and the real cost argument
Latex is the longest-lived comfort material in mattresses. A well-made latex core routinely goes 12 to 15 years before it loses meaningful support, versus five to eight for premium polyfoam. Amortized over that life, an $849 queen is cheaper per night than a $600 foam bed replaced twice.
Sleep EZ backs the Roma with a 10-year warranty and a 90-day trial. The trade for the low price is that the Roma is not layer-exchangeable the way the Select Sleep line is — you flip it, but you can't swap firmnesses.

Frequently Asked Questions
Customer Reviews
Flipped it after three weeks and got the bed I wanted
Started on medium, back pain came back, flipped to firm and it went away. Two mattresses in one box for $849.
Cool and springy, but thin
Latex feels nothing like foam — it pushes back. I love it. Just be aware it is 7 inches, so on our tall frame the bed looks a bit odd.
Called them and a human answered
Had a question about layer swaps and got someone who clearly makes these for a living. That is worth something.

How We Tested the Sleep EZ Roma All-Latex Mattress
Every mattress we review goes through our rigorous, multi-step evaluation process. Here's exactly how we arrived at our scores for the Sleep EZ Sleep EZ Roma All-Latex Mattress.
Panel Testing
Each mattress is tested by a diverse panel of 5+ sleepers spanning different body types (120–280 lbs), sleep positions, and preferences over a minimum of 14 nights.
Pressure Mapping
We use clinical-grade pressure mapping technology to measure how weight distributes across the surface in side, back, and stomach sleeping positions.
Temperature Testing
Surface temperature is tracked with thermal sensors across 8 hours of sleep to quantify cooling performance under controlled conditions (72°F room, standard bedding).
Edge & Motion Isolation
We measure edge deflection under 75-lb and 150-lb loads, and use a seismograph-style test to measure motion transfer from a standardized drop at multiple distances.
Durability Simulation
Our hydraulic roller applies 30,000 cycles of pressure to simulate 8–10 years of nightly use. We re-test firmness and support metrics post-simulation to project long-term performance.
Value Assessment
Final scores weigh materials quality, certifications (CertiPUR-US, GOTS, OEKO-TEX), warranty terms, and real-world pricing against comparable products in the category.
Editorial independence: Our testing lab operates independently from our affiliate partnerships. Brands cannot pay for higher scores or influence our methodology. Read our full editorial policy and detailed testing methodology.
