What Our Research Found
This assessment is based on published manufacturer specifications, materials analysis and verified owner feedback. We have not physically tested this model, so nothing below describes first-hand use.
This is one mattress in three configurations, not three mattresses, and treating it as one family is the only way the choice makes sense. Medium is the tight-top build at 13.25 inches with three inches of organic Dunlop latex. Plush adds an attached pillow-top for four inches of latex at 14 inches. Ultra Plush adds an attached box-top with three inches of FSC-certified Pure Talalay for five inches of latex cushioning at 15 inches. Avocado reduced the pillow-top and box-top heights this generation — from 17 and 19 inches to 14 and 15 — so older figures on other sites are stale.
The materials list is unusually specific, and we repeat only what Avocado documents: GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex at D65/14-19 ILD made with at least 95% certified organic latex, GOTS-certified organic wool from Avocado's own farms, two inches of natural alpaca, GOTS-certified organic cotton canvas, a cotton-wool-silk blend, and up to 2,588 encased recycled-steel coils in seven zones, with a micro-coil unit of up to 960 springs in the pillow-top and box-top builds.
Certifications: Avocado lists GOLS, GOTS, FSC, GREENGUARD Gold, MADE SAFE, OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 and EWG Verified for this product. Those are real, named, verifiable standards and we cite them as such. We do not translate them into a blanket claim that the mattress is non-toxic or entirely organic — a certification covers what it covers.
The build detail worth knowing is the needle-tufting: the layers are bound by ribbons pulled through the mattress in up to 32 places rather than glued. That is a durability decision, and it pairs with the 25-year limited warranty and the one-year trial, which is among the longest we see. The counterweights are the price, the fact that the foundation is sold separately, and that the mattress ships flat rather than compressed.

How we score (1–10 rubric) →Evaluated through published specifications, manufacturer information, verified owner feedback and materials analysis. Not physically tested in our lab. We do not publish cooling, motion-isolation, edge-support, pressure-relief, response, durability or off-gassing scores for the Avocado Luxury Organic until the full protocol is complete. Everything below — construction, materials, firmness, pricing, trial and warranty — is verified specification and editorial analysis.

What We Love
- One mattress family with three genuine configurations rather than three near-identical products
- GOLS-certified organic latex, GOTS-certified organic cotton and wool, natural alpaca and silk
- Up to 2,588 encased recycled-steel coils arranged in seven zones, plus a micro-coil unit in the pillow-top and box-top builds
- GREENGUARD Gold, MADE SAFE, OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, EWG Verified, GOLS, GOTS and FSC certifications listed by Avocado
- One-year trial and a 25-year limited warranty
What Could Be Better
- The most expensive mattress family we cover from Avocado, and the upgrades add over a thousand dollars
- Ships flat, not roll-packed, so delivery logistics need planning
- Heavy — Avocado lists a queen at 147–160 lb depending on configuration
- The foundation is sold separately
- Latex and coils are resilient, so motion carries further than on memory foam
Best For
- Side sleepers who want deep pressure relief from natural materials
- Buyers who want certified organic materials documented layer by layer
- Couples who want zoned coil support with a plush surface
- Anyone choosing a mattress on certification and material sourcing first
Not Ideal For
- Budget-conscious shoppers — the Avocado Green covers organic materials for far less
- Stomach sleepers, who are better served by the firmer Avocado Green
- People who need a mattress delivered compressed in a box

Sleep Position Analysis
Side Sleepers
The Avocado Luxury Organic's softer feel (5/10) provides excellent pressure relief for side sleepers. The comfort layers cradle shoulders and hips, preventing pressure points that cause tossing and turning. We recommend this mattress for side sleepers of all body types.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers will find the Avocado Luxury Organic's 5/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature.
Stomach Sleepers
At 5/10 firmness, the Avocado Luxury Organic may be too soft for stomach sleepers. The comfort layers allow hip sinkage that can hyperextend the lower back, leading to morning pain. Stomach sleepers should consider a firmer option (7+ on our scale).
Combination Sleepers
The Avocado Luxury Organic's latex construction is naturally springy, so it returns to shape quickly when you switch positions — easier for combination sleepers than memory foam.

The decision is really about how much latex you want above the coils. Medium gives you three inches of GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex in a tight-top build at 13.25 inches, and Avocado positions it for back and stomach sleepers. Plush attaches a pillow-top with two more inches of the same latex, taking the total to four and the height to 14 inches, and adds the micro-coil unit. Ultra Plush attaches a box-top with three inches of soft FSC-certified Pure Talalay, for five inches of latex cushioning at 15 inches.
One practical note that trips people up: Avocado reduced the profiles this generation. The pillow-top came down from 17 inches to 14 and the box-top from 19 to 15. Figures published elsewhere for the taller versions describe the previous build, not the one you would buy now.
The materials, and the certifications that cover them
Avocado documents this mattress layer by layer, which is rare. The cover is 97% organic cotton with 3% elastane for stretch, within GOTS standards. Below it sit GOTS-certified organic wool from Avocado's own farms, two inches of natural alpaca, a further wool layer, organic cotton canvas, a soft GOTS-certified blend of cotton, wool and natural silk, and GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex specified at D65/14-19 ILD and made with at least 95% certified organic latex. The support comes from up to 2,588 fabric-encased recycled-steel coils in seven zones, with a one-inch unit of up to 960 micro-coils in the pillow-top and box-top builds.
The certifications Avocado lists for this product are GOLS, GOTS, FSC, GREENGUARD Gold, MADE SAFE, OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 and EWG Verified. Each covers a defined scope — GOLS the organic latex, GOTS the organic textiles, OEKO-TEX the tested absence of specified harmful substances. We cite them by name rather than rolling them into a blanket safety claim.
Construction, warranty and the practical catches
The layers are bound by needle-tufting — ribbons pulled through the whole mattress in up to 32 places — rather than with adhesives. That is a durability decision, and it fits with a 25-year limited warranty and a one-year trial, which is among the longest windows any brand offers.
The catches are logistical and financial. The mattress ships flat rather than roll-packed, so access and manoeuvring matter. Avocado lists a queen between 147 and 160 lb depending on configuration. The foundation is sold separately. And the upgrade path is expensive: the box-top build costs over $1,600 more than the tight-top.

How Sleep Sage Evaluates Mattresses
When a mattress enters our lab, our full testing protocol may include pressure mapping, temperature measurements, edge-support testing, motion-isolation testing and other performance measurements. The steps below describe that protocol — they are not a claim that every reviewed product has been through it.
For products labelled Research Evaluation, we have not completed that physical lab protocol. Those reviews are based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.
Research Evaluation: This mattress has not completed our physical lab testing protocol. Our evaluation is based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.
Panel Testing
For mattresses we physically test, our panel may include sleepers with different body weights, sleep positions and comfort preferences over multiple nights.
Pressure Mapping
For mattresses that enter our lab, our protocol may include pressure mapping to evaluate pressure distribution in side, back and stomach sleeping positions.
Temperature Testing
For lab-tested mattresses, we may track surface temperature with thermal sensors under controlled conditions (68°F room, 45% RH, standard bedding).
Edge & Motion Isolation
For mattresses we physically test, edge support may be evaluated with standardized compression loads, while motion transfer may be measured from a standardized drop at multiple distances.
Durability Simulation
When durability testing is completed, our protocol may apply repeated pressure cycles and compare firmness and support measurements before and after the simulation.
Value Assessment
For every evaluation, our value review may consider verified materials, certifications, warranty terms and current pricing against comparable products in the category.
