Zenhaven is Saatva's latex flagship, and the flippable design is the whole argument for it: one side is Luxury Plush (about a 4–5 on our 10-point scale), the other Gentle Firm (about a 7–8), and switching between them is a matter of turning the mattress over rather than exchanging it. There is no polyurethane foam and no memory foam anywhere in the build — just 5-zone Talalay latex with vented airflow channels over a second latex support core, wrapped in organic cotton with a New Zealand wool layer acting as the natural flame barrier. The latex is GOLS and eco-INSTITUT certified, and the whole thing is assembled in the US and delivered by a white-glove crew rather than compressed into a box. At $3,124 for a queen on the standing sale ($3,549 list) it is a genuine luxury purchase, but the lifetime warranty and latex's real-world 15-to-20-year service life make the cost-per-year competitive with replacing a foam bed twice. The two catches: the buoyant latex feel is polarising, and Zenhaven cannot sit directly on a slatted platform — you need plywood or a bunkie board over the slats.

Most 'flippable' mattresses on the market are two comfort layers over a shared foam core, and the difference between sides is small enough that buyers rarely bother turning them. Zenhaven is not that. The two faces use Talalay latex at meaningfully different ILDs, and in our testing the plush side reads about 4.5 out of 10 while the gentle firm side reads about 7.5 — a wider gap than the difference between Saatva Classic's Plush Soft and Luxury Firm builds.
That matters practically because firmness is the single most common reason a mattress gets returned. With Zenhaven, a wrong guess costs you ten minutes and a second pair of hands instead of a return pickup and a re-order. If you are shopping for a couple who disagree about firmness, or for a guest room where the sleeper changes, the flip is the entire value proposition.
The one caveat: the mattress is heavy. A queen is manageable with two adults; a king is genuinely awkward. Plan the flip for a day when someone can help rather than assuming you will do it on a whim.
Why it sleeps cooler than any hybrid
Talalay latex is produced by vacuum-sealing and flash-freezing the latex in a mould, which produces a consistently open, interconnected cell structure. Zenhaven then punches vented channels through the comfort layers. The result is a comfort surface that moves air passively, without gel, phase-change fabric, or any of the cooling marketing layered onto foam beds.
The wool layer under the organic cotton cover does the second half of the work. Wool moves moisture vapour away from the skin rather than holding it, which is why the surface does not develop the clammy feel that gel-infused memory foam gets around hour four. It also serves as the flame barrier, which is how Saatva avoids chemical retardants entirely.
In our thermal testing Zenhaven held the lowest surface-temperature rise of any mattress in the current review set, including hybrids marketed specifically on cooling. If sleeping hot is your primary complaint, this is the strongest recommendation we make.
The foundation requirement people miss
Latex is dense and it does not bridge gaps. On a slatted platform bed with slats spaced more than about three inches apart, the mattress will settle into the gaps over months and you will feel the ribbing. Saatva's warranty language reflects this, so it is not a detail to skip.
You have three options. Buy the Saatva foundation, which is designed for it. Lay a bunkie board or a sheet of half-inch plywood over your existing slats, which costs under $80 and works perfectly. Or use a solid platform with no gaps. Any of those is fine; bare wide slats are not.
Zenhaven does work on adjustable bases. Latex flexes repeatedly without the layer separation that eventually affects glued foam builds, so if you want zero-gravity positioning this is a better long-term match than a memory foam bed.
