    Red Flags on "Non-Toxic" Marketing

    • "Natural" and "eco-friendly" are unregulated terms. Demand a specific certification name.
    • Chemical flame retardants are still legal. Confirm the fire barrier is wool, silica, or rayon — not undisclosed.
    • CertiPUR-US covers only the polyfoam, not the cover, glue, or coil oils. It's necessary but not sufficient on its own.
    • GREENGUARD and GREENGUARD Gold are different tiers. Gold has stricter limits (lab-tested for kids and chemically sensitive sleepers).
    • Always ask for the certification number and verify it on the issuing body's public registry before purchase.
