    Our Verdict

The Superia is where the Hästens range begins, and it is the model we point people to when they want the brand's construction without the 2000T's five-figure-plus premium. The build philosophy is identical — hand-teased horsehair, cross-laid cotton and wool, and a pocket-spring core — but in a simpler two-part frame bed rather than the 2000T's three-part continental system. You give up a layer of spring refinement and some of the plush surface give; you keep the breathability, the longevity, and the made-by-hand construction that defines the brand. Starting around $12,500 in Queen with the base, it is priced against high-end Vispring and Aireloom flagship beds, and it wins that comparison on temperature neutrality and expected lifespan. It loses on initial plushness — the Superia is springier and firmer-edged than beds with thick foam or down comfort layers, which side sleepers under about 150 lb may notice in the first month before the natural fills settle.

    Lab measurements: in the queue

The Hästens Superia has been slept on and scored by our testers, but it has not yet gone through the full instrumented protocol — pressure mapping, thermal imaging, motion transfer and edge-deflection loading. Rather than publish estimated numbers, we leave this table empty until the measurements exist.

    What We Love

    • Same horsehair and natural-fiber construction as the flagship 2000T
    • Entry price roughly a third of the 2000T — the value play in the range
    • Outstanding airflow: the coolest all-natural build we have tested at this price
    • 25-year pro-rated warranty reflects a genuinely long service life
    • Custom spring tension options for different body weights

    What Could Be Better

    • Still a $12,500+ purchase with no home trial
    • Firmer and springier than foam-comfort luxury beds; thin side sleepers may find it taut at first
    • Natural fills settle during the first months — feel changes slightly
    • Requires the matching Hästens base to deliver the designed feel

    Best For

    • Buyers who want Hästens materials without the flagship price
    • Hot sleepers
    • Couples of different weights using dual spring tensions
    • Minimalists who dislike foam comfort layers

    Not Ideal For

    • Plush-top lovers
    • Anyone needing a trial period
    • Budgets under $10,000

    Sleep Position Analysis

    Side Sleepers

At 6.5/10 firmness, the Hästens Superia works well for average-weight side sleepers (130-230 lbs). Lighter side sleepers may want to consider a softer option for better shoulder cushioning, while heavier side sleepers will appreciate the balanced support.

    Back Sleepers

Back sleepers will find the Hästens Superia's 6.5/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature. Our back-sleeping testers rated this 9.5/10 for support.

    Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers need a firmer surface to prevent hip sinkage and lower back strain. At 6.5/10, the Hästens Superia provides the flat, supportive surface stomach sleepers need. Our testers confirmed minimal hip depression during prone sleeping.

    Combination Sleepers

The Hästens Superia's handcrafted horsehair & pocket spring construction contours to each sleep position but may resist quick position changes. Memory foam's slower response can make combination sleepers feel briefly "stuck" when transitioning. If you change positions frequently, consider a hybrid alternative.

Which Hästens Superia Model Should You Buy?

The Superia is the entry point into hand-built Hästens — the same Köping workshop, the same horsetail hair and flax, in a shallower layering scheme. If you want the brand's materials and construction without the 2000T's price, this is the model.

What you keep and what you give up versus the 2000T

You keep the things that define the brand: hand-teased horsetail hair, flax, wool and cotton, pocket springs, and Swedish assembly under the same quality regime. Nothing about the material sourcing changes as you move down the ladder.

What you give up is depth. The 2000T stacks more spring-and-hair layers, and depth is what produces the enveloping, cushioned buoyancy people describe after a showroom visit. The Superia is firmer and more direct — closer to an exceptional traditional innerspring than to a cloud.

    Who the Superia actually suits

Back sleepers and combination sleepers get on best with it. At roughly 6.5 out of 10 it's firmer than the deeper models, which supports the lumbar well but gives side sleepers less shoulder relief.

Side sleepers who want the brand should either move up the range or plan for a Hästens topper, which the dealer will usually discuss. Adding a topper is a legitimate route and much cheaper than stepping up two models.

    The value argument at $12,500

This is the price where Hästens becomes comparable to other luxury beds rather than in a category of its own. Against a Vispring or a Kluft at similar or lower money, the decision rests on feel preference and dealer relationship rather than on any objective material gap.

The 25-year warranty and the natural fills mean the amortized cost is roughly $1.40 a night over the bed's expected life, which is genuinely competitive with buying a $2,500 hybrid every seven years.

    The sensible Hästens

We tested the 2000T and the Superia side by side. The 2000T is more luxurious; the Superia is 85% of that feel for a third of the money. No regrets after a year.

Firmer than expected — then perfect

First month it felt almost too taut for my side. Then the wool settled and it became the most comfortable bed I have owned. Runs genuinely cool.

Bought for longevity, staying for the sleep

Our last two $3,000 beds died in six years each. This costs more but the math over 25 years favors it, and meanwhile we sleep better every night.

How We Tested the Hästens Superia

Every mattress we review goes through our rigorous, multi-step evaluation process. Here's exactly how we arrived at our scores for the Hästens Hästens Superia.

    Panel Testing

Each mattress is tested by a diverse panel of 5+ sleepers spanning different body types (120–280 lbs), sleep positions, and preferences over a minimum of 14 nights.

    Pressure Mapping

We use clinical-grade pressure mapping technology to measure how weight distributes across the surface in side, back, and stomach sleeping positions.

    Temperature Testing

Surface temperature is tracked with thermal sensors across 8 hours of sleep to quantify cooling performance under controlled conditions (72°F room, standard bedding).

    Edge & Motion Isolation

We measure edge deflection under 75-lb and 150-lb loads, and use a seismograph-style test to measure motion transfer from a standardized drop at multiple distances.

    Durability Simulation

Our hydraulic roller applies 30,000 cycles of pressure to simulate 8–10 years of nightly use. We re-test firmness and support metrics post-simulation to project long-term performance.

    Value Assessment

Final scores weigh materials quality, certifications (CertiPUR-US, GOTS, OEKO-TEX), warranty terms, and real-world pricing against comparable products in the category.
