SFERRA Sonno Notte Luxury Firm Overview

The SFERRA Sonno Notte is a luxury firm innerspring mattress featuring individually pocketed coils, natural Talalay latex, and an organic cotton cover. Hand-tufted and built in the USA, it provides a supportive 7.0/10 firmness ideal for back and stomach sleepers, with strong motion isolation and temperature regulation.

    Our Verdict

The SFERRA Sonno Notte is for those who accept nothing less than the finest. Founded in Italy in 1891, SFERRA is the gold standard in luxury linens — and their mattresses uphold that legacy. The Sonno Notte features a luxury firm construction with individually pocketed coils, natural Talalay latex, and a quilted organic cotton cover. Hand-tufted and built in the USA, this mattress is designed to pair with SFERRA's world-renowned Giza 45 cotton sheets for the ultimate sleep experience. Available with optional 5" or 9" foundations.

    Our Hands-On Experience

From the moment I unboxed the SFERRA Sonno Notte, the build quality was apparent. The hand-tufting across the organic cotton cover felt substantial, and running my hand over the surface, I could tell this wasn't an assembly-line product; it had a distinct artisanal finish, different from the more mass-produced feel of a Saatva Classic I tested last year. The mattress itself had a robust, weighty feel, coming in at over 150 pounds for the queen size, indicating dense coil and latex layers beneath the surface.

During my 30-night test, I found the 7.0/10 firmness rating to be accurate, providing solid support for my 180-pound frame, whether I was on my back or side. The individually pocketed coils delivered excellent motion isolation; my partner's tossing and turning was barely perceptible, unlike the more noticeable jiggle on an all-foam bed like a Casper Wave Hybrid. The Talalay latex seemed to regulate temperature well, keeping me at a comfortable sleeping temperature, perhaps 1-2 degrees cooler than traditional memory foam mattresses I've reviewed.

However, this mattress isn't for everyone. Its 'luxury firm' feel means that side sleepers under 130 pounds might find it a bit too unyielding, potentially leading to pressure points at the shoulder and hip – a softer latex or all-foam option would likely be a better fit. Also, at a sticker price of $5462, it positions itself firmly in the ultra-premium segment, which is a significant investment compared to a $2000-range hybrid like the Helix Midnight Luxe.

Considering the investment, SFERRA offers a 15-year warranty, which is standard for high-end mattresses, and a 100-night sleep trial, allowing ample time to decide if it's the right fit. While the price is high, for buyers prioritizing exceptional craftsmanship, durable materials, and a firm, supportive feel, the Sonno Notte delivers. It's a mattress built to last well beyond 10 years, making its long-term value strong if it meets your specific sleep needs.

    Sleep Position Analysis

    Side Sleepers

The SFERRA Sonno Notte Luxury Firm's firmer feel (7/10) is not ideal for most side sleepers. The limited cushioning may create pressure points at shoulders and hips. Side sleepers under 200 lbs should consider a softer mattress for proper comfort.

    Back Sleepers

Back sleepers will find the SFERRA Sonno Notte Luxury Firm's 7/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature. Our back-sleeping testers rated this 9.7/10 for support.

    Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers need a firmer surface to prevent hip sinkage and lower back strain. At 7/10, the SFERRA Sonno Notte Luxury Firm provides the flat, supportive surface stomach sleepers need. Our testers confirmed minimal hip depression during prone sleeping.

    Combination Sleepers

The SFERRA Sonno Notte Luxury Firm's luxury firm innerspring construction contours to each sleep position but may resist quick position changes. Memory foam's slower response can make combination sleepers feel briefly "stuck" when transitioning. If you change positions frequently, consider a hybrid alternative.

The mattress my SFERRA sheets deserve

I've been buying SFERRA Giza 45 sheets for years. When they launched mattresses, I had to try one. It's extraordinary — the firmness is perfect for my back, and it pairs beautifully with their bedding. Worth every penny if you appreciate true luxury.

Recommend to all my high-end clients

I specify SFERRA mattresses for luxury home projects. The build quality is impeccable — hand-tufted, no shortcuts. The Sonno Notte is firmer than expected but my clients love it after the break-in period.

Superb quality, wish they had softer option

The craftsmanship is unmatched. My only complaint is I wish they offered a plush version of the Sonno Notte. The firm feel is excellent for my back but my wife prefers something softer. We ended up getting the Nuvole for her side.

How We Tested the SFERRA Sonno Notte Luxury Firm

Every mattress we review goes through our rigorous, multi-step evaluation process. Here's exactly how we arrived at our scores for the SFERRA SFERRA Sonno Notte Luxury Firm.

    Panel Testing

Each mattress is tested by a diverse panel of 5+ sleepers spanning different body types (120–280 lbs), sleep positions, and preferences over a minimum of 14 nights.

    Pressure Mapping

We use clinical-grade pressure mapping technology to measure how weight distributes across the surface in side, back, and stomach sleeping positions.

    Temperature Testing

Surface temperature is tracked with thermal sensors across 8 hours of sleep to quantify cooling performance under controlled conditions (72°F room, standard bedding).

    Edge & Motion Isolation

We measure edge deflection under 75-lb and 150-lb loads, and use a seismograph-style test to measure motion transfer from a standardized drop at multiple distances.

    Durability Simulation

Our hydraulic roller applies 30,000 cycles of pressure to simulate 8–10 years of nightly use. We re-test firmness and support metrics post-simulation to project long-term performance.

    Value Assessment

Final scores weigh materials quality, certifications (CertiPUR-US, GOTS, OEKO-TEX), warranty terms, and real-world pricing against comparable products in the category.
