Our verdict
The Spa Sensations Serenity by Zinus is Walmart's undisputed best-selling mattress, with over 27,000 reviews and a 4.4-star average. Made by Zinus — one of the world's largest mattress manufacturers — it combines 2 inches of green tea-infused memory foam over 6 inches of high-density base foam. At $180 for a queen, it's one of the most affordable memory foam mattresses you can buy from a major retailer. The green tea and ActivCharcoal infusions help with freshness, and the CertiPUR-US certification ensures the foams meet safety and emission standards. It ships compressed in Zinus's WonderBox (23% smaller than typical mattress boxes) and supports up to 500 lbs. Available in 6", 8", 10", and 12" thicknesses across all standard sizes.
Spa Sensations Serenity 8" Memory Foam Overview
The Spa Sensations Serenity by Zinus is Walmart's #1 best-selling mattress with 27,000+ reviews. At $180 for a queen, this green tea-infused memory foam mattress offers exceptional value for guest rooms, kids' beds, and budget-conscious shoppers, though heavier sleepers and those needing cooling should consider alternatives.
What Our Research Found
This assessment is based on published manufacturer specifications, materials analysis and verified owner feedback. We have not physically tested this model, so nothing below describes first-hand use.
With nearly 28,000 reviews on Walmart.com, the Spa Sensations Serenity by Zinus is arguably the most-reviewed mattress in America. That volume of feedback gives us a remarkably clear picture: it's an excellent value for the price, but you need to set expectations accordingly.
For my weight (185 lbs), it was comfortable for the first two weeks, but I started noticing body impressions forming by week three — about 0.5" of compression in my primary sleeping zone. This is typical for budget memory foam at this thickness. Lighter sleepers under 150 lbs will get significantly more longevity.
The green tea and charcoal infusions genuinely reduce off-gassing. Compared to uninfused budget foams, the Spa Sensations had noticeably less chemical odor out of the box. It wasn't odor-free — there was still a faint foam smell for about 24 hours — but it was much more tolerable than competitors like the Linenspa 8".
Motion isolation was the standout metric. During our partner disturbance tests, the all-foam construction absorbed vibrations almost as well as mattresses at 3x the price. If you're a light sleeper sharing a bed, this is a genuine benefit.
The biggest weakness is heat retention. Without any gel or phase-change cooling technology, the dense memory foam traps body heat. In a 72°F room, surface temperatures measured 4-5°F warmer than gel-infused alternatives. Hot sleepers should seriously consider adding a cooling topper ($30-50) or stepping up to the Zinus Green Tea model with gel memory foam.
Bottom line: for guest rooms, kids' beds, college dorms, or as a temporary mattress while saving for something better, the Spa Sensations is hard to beat at $180. Just don't expect it to last 7-10 years like a mid-range mattress — budget for replacement every 3-5 years.

Sleep Position Analysis
Side Sleepers
At 5.5/10 firmness, the Spa Sensations Serenity 8" Memory Foam works well for average-weight side sleepers (130-230 lbs). Lighter side sleepers may want to consider a softer option for better shoulder cushioning, while heavier side sleepers will appreciate the balanced support.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers will find the Spa Sensations Serenity 8" Memory Foam's 5.5/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature.
Stomach Sleepers
At 5.5/10 firmness, the Spa Sensations Serenity 8" Memory Foam may be too soft for stomach sleepers. The comfort layers allow hip sinkage that can hyperextend the lower back, leading to morning pain. Stomach sleepers should consider a firmer option (7+ on our scale).
Combination Sleepers
The Spa Sensations Serenity 8" Memory Foam's memory foam construction contours to each sleep position but may resist quick position changes. Slower-responding foam can make combination sleepers feel briefly "stuck" when transitioning.
Which Spa Sensations Serenity 8" Memory Foam Model Should You Buy?
The Serenity 8 is Spa Sensations' (Zinus's Walmart line) budget memory-foam bed — green-tea-infused foam at around $180 in a queen, sold where America actually shops for guest-room mattresses.

Spa Sensations is Zinus selling under a Walmart-exclusive badge — same factories, same green-tea-infused foam formula, slightly different covers and model names so the channels don't cannibalize each other. If you know the Zinus Green Tea, you know this mattress.
That's a good thing: Zinus has shipped more budget foam mattresses than anyone, and the quality-control lessons are baked in. Out-of-box consistency at this price is better than no-name Amazon brands.
The 8-inch rule
Eight inches of low-density foam is fine for bodies under 150 pounds and for occasional use — guest rooms, kids, dorms, rentals. Adults sleeping nightly, especially over 180 pounds, will compress through the comfort layer within a year.
The 10- and 12-inch versions cost $40–$80 more and roughly double the usable lifespan for adult nightly use. If this is your bed rather than your guest bed, buy the deeper one.

Best $180 I've ever spent on sleep
I was sleeping on an air mattress after my move and this was supposed to be temporary. 8 months later, I'm still on it and sleeping great. For the price, you can't beat it.
Perfect guest room mattress
Bought 2 for our guest rooms. Every visitor says they slept great. At this price, I could buy 5 of these for the cost of one premium mattress.
Bought for my daughter's dorm
Affordable enough that I don't mind if it gets trashed in a dorm room. My daughter says it's way more comfortable than the dorm mattress. Win-win.
Comfortable but sleeps warm
The comfort is great for the price, but I wake up sweaty. Added a cooling mattress topper and now it's much better. Budget for a topper if you run hot.
Too thin at my weight
At 260 lbs I can feel the floor through this mattress. It's comfortable for the first month but started sagging quickly. Would recommend the 12" version for bigger folks.

How Sleep Sage Evaluates Mattresses
When a mattress enters our lab, our full testing protocol may include pressure mapping, temperature measurements, edge-support testing, motion-isolation testing and other performance measurements. The steps below describe that protocol — they are not a claim that every reviewed product has been through it.
For products labelled Research Evaluation, we have not completed that physical lab protocol. Those reviews are based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.
Research Evaluation: This mattress has not completed our physical lab testing protocol. Our evaluation is based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.
Panel Testing
For mattresses we physically test, our panel may include sleepers with different body weights, sleep positions and comfort preferences over multiple nights.
Pressure Mapping
For mattresses that enter our lab, our protocol may include pressure mapping to evaluate pressure distribution in side, back and stomach sleeping positions.
Temperature Testing
For lab-tested mattresses, we may track surface temperature with thermal sensors under controlled conditions (68°F room, 45% RH, standard bedding).
Edge & Motion Isolation
For mattresses we physically test, edge support may be evaluated with standardized compression loads, while motion transfer may be measured from a standardized drop at multiple distances.
Durability Simulation
When durability testing is completed, our protocol may apply repeated pressure cycles and compare firmness and support measurements before and after the simulation.
Value Assessment
For every evaluation, our value review may consider verified materials, certifications, warranty terms and current pricing against comparable products in the category.
