    Our verdict

The Contour5 is Saatva's memory-foam bed, and it is not the Loom & Leaf, the Classic or the RX. It is a 12.5-inch all-foam build sold in a single medium feel: a breathable knit cover with organic cotton and Saatva's Guardin botanical antimicrobial treatment, a GREENGUARD Gold certified flame barrier, a patented Lumbar Zone PCM matrix that adds phase-change material and firmer support exactly under the lower back, gel-infused 4 lb memory foam, a 3-inch 5 lb memory foam core and a high-density support base. It comes with free white glove delivery, a 365-night trial and a lifetime warranty — the policy package is a real part of what you are paying for at $2,674 queen.

    Saatva Contour5 Overview

The Saatva Contour5 is a 12.5-inch memory-foam mattress at $2,674 queen: a breathable organic cotton knit cover, a GREENGUARD Gold flame barrier, the patented Lumbar Zone PCM Matrix, 4 lb gel memory foam and a 3-inch 5 lb memory foam core, in a single medium feel. Free white glove delivery, a 365-night trial and a lifetime warranty. Research evaluation.

    What Our Research Found

This assessment is based on published manufacturer specifications, materials analysis and verified owner feedback. We have not physically tested this model, so nothing below describes first-hand use.

The Contour5 is Saatva's memory-foam bed, and it needs separating from its siblings before anything else: it is not the Loom & Leaf, not the innerspring Classic, not the latex Zenhaven, not the RX. It is a 12.5-inch all-foam build sold in one medium feel.

The design idea worth paying for is the patented Lumbar Zone PCM Matrix — firmer support material plus phase-change material concentrated under the lower back. Deep memory foam's classic weakness is the hips sinking further than the shoulders and rounding the lumbar spine; zoning the layer that carries that load is a direct answer to it. Putting phase-change material inside the stack rather than only in the cover is the other notable choice.

Saatva publishes its foam densities — 4 lb gel memory foam over a 3-inch 5 lb core — which almost nobody does at this price, and density is one of the few honest predictors of how long a foam layer holds its shape. We will not turn that into a lifespan promise, but it is real information you can compare.

The service package is genuinely part of the price: free white glove delivery, in-room setup, old mattress removal, a 365-night trial and a lifetime warranty. And an all-foam mattress gives up edge stability that a coil perimeter would provide.

    What We Love

    • Deep memory-foam contouring with a zoned lumbar layer rather than uniform sink
    • Saatva publishes the foam densities — 4 lb gel memory foam over a 3-inch 5 lb core
    • Phase-change material built into the lumbar matrix instead of only in the cover
    • 365-night trial and a lifetime warranty
    • Free white glove delivery with in-room setup and old mattress removal

    What Could Be Better

    • One medium feel — no firmness options in this model
    • All-foam beds give up edge stability compared with a coil perimeter
    • $2,674 queen is high for memory foam
    • Saatva charges a transport fee on trial returns
    • Memory foam responds slowly, so repositioning takes more effort than on a hybrid

    Best For

    • Side sleepers who want genuine memory-foam pressure relief
    • Couples who need strong motion isolation
    • Back sleepers who want lumbar reinforcement inside a soft-feeling bed
    • Buyers who value delivery, setup and removal being handled

    Not Ideal For

    • Sleepers who dislike the sensation of sinking in
    • People who sit or sleep right on the edge of the bed
    • Stomach sleepers over 230 lb who need a firm surface

    Mattress Construction

    1

A knit cover containing organic cotton, treated with Saatva's Guardin botanical antimicrobial finish.

    2

    GREENGUARD Gold certified flame barrier

The mattress's flame barrier, certified by Saatva for low chemical emissions.

    3

    Patented Lumbar Zone PCM Matrix

Saatva's zoned layer: phase-change material combined with firmer support material through the lumbar section to limit sag under the hips.

    4

    Gel-infused memory foam (4 lb)

A gel-infused 4 lb density memory foam layer for contouring near the surface.

    5

Memory foam core (3", 5 lb)

Three inches of 5 lb density memory foam — the layer that produces the deep, slow contour the bed is named for.

    6

    Transition and high-density base foam

A transition layer over a high-density support base that anchors the build and carries the load.

    Sleep Position Analysis

    Side Sleepers

At 5.5/10 firmness, the Saatva Contour5 works well for average-weight side sleepers (130-230 lbs). Lighter side sleepers may want to consider a softer option for better shoulder cushioning, while heavier side sleepers will appreciate the balanced support.

    Back Sleepers

Back sleepers will find the Saatva Contour5's 5.5/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature.

    Stomach Sleepers

At 5.5/10 firmness, the Saatva Contour5 may be too soft for stomach sleepers. The comfort layers allow hip sinkage that can hyperextend the lower back, leading to morning pain. Stomach sleepers should consider a firmer option (7+ on our scale).

    Combination Sleepers

The Saatva Contour5's memory foam construction contours to each sleep position but may resist quick position changes. Slower-responding foam can make combination sleepers feel briefly "stuck" when transitioning.

Which Saatva Contour5 Model Should You Buy?

Saatva sells several beds that shoppers confuse with each other, and the Contour5 is the memory-foam one. It is not the Loom & Leaf, not the innerspring Classic, not the Zenhaven latex bed and not the therapeutic RX. Queen pricing was read on 15 September 2026.

The lumbar layer is the design argument

The usual complaint about a deep memory-foam bed is that the heaviest part of you — the hips — sinks furthest, which rounds the lower back out of line. Saatva's answer is the patented Lumbar Zone PCM Matrix: a layer that combines phase-change material with firmer support material through the lumbar section specifically, so the middle of the bed resists more than the shoulders and legs do.

Putting phase-change material inside that layer rather than only in the cover is the other notable choice. Cover-level cooling sits above you; a phase-change layer deeper in the stack sits where memory foam actually traps heat.

Densities, and why Saatva publishing them matters

Saatva names the foams: gel-infused 4 lb memory foam above, and a three-inch 5 lb memory foam core below. Most brands at this price do not publish density at all, and density is one of the few construction facts that genuinely correlates with how long a foam layer holds its shape. Being able to read the number is a real advantage when you are comparing $2,500 memory-foam beds.

We stop short of predicting a lifespan from it. A 5 lb core is a high-density memory foam by industry convention, and the lifetime warranty signals Saatva's own confidence, but no density figure entitles anyone to promise you a specific number of years.

The service package is part of the price

The Contour5 comes with free white glove delivery, in-room setup and removal of your old mattress, a 365-night trial and a lifetime warranty. That combination is unusual, and it is a meaningful part of what separates a $2,674 Saatva from a $1,200 boxed memory-foam hybrid with comparable-sounding layers.

One caveat to read before you order: Saatva charges a transport fee on trial returns. The trial is long and generous, but it is not free to change your mind, and the mattress is a 12.5-inch all-foam build that you will not be shipping back yourself.

    How Sleep Sage Evaluates Mattresses

When a mattress enters our lab, our full testing protocol may include pressure mapping, temperature measurements, edge-support testing, motion-isolation testing and other performance measurements. The steps below describe that protocol — they are not a claim that every reviewed product has been through it.

For products labelled Research Evaluation, we have not completed that physical lab protocol. Those reviews are based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.

Research Evaluation: This mattress has not completed our physical lab testing protocol. Our evaluation is based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.

    Panel Testing

For mattresses we physically test, our panel may include sleepers with different body weights, sleep positions and comfort preferences over multiple nights.

    Pressure Mapping

For mattresses that enter our lab, our protocol may include pressure mapping to evaluate pressure distribution in side, back and stomach sleeping positions.

    Temperature Testing

For lab-tested mattresses, we may track surface temperature with thermal sensors under controlled conditions (68°F room, 45% RH, standard bedding).

    Edge & Motion Isolation

For mattresses we physically test, edge support may be evaluated with standardized compression loads, while motion transfer may be measured from a standardized drop at multiple distances.

    Durability Simulation

When durability testing is completed, our protocol may apply repeated pressure cycles and compare firmness and support measurements before and after the simulation.

    Value Assessment

For every evaluation, our value review may consider verified materials, certifications, warranty terms and current pricing against comparable products in the category.
