Our verdict
The Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam mattress is the budget benchmark: around $299 for a queen and consistently one of the best-selling beds online. Three foam layers, infused with green tea extract and charcoal for odor control, create a medium (5.5) feel with real pressure relief for side sleepers in guest rooms, kids' rooms, and first apartments. Motion transfer is minimal. The realistic limits matter: edge support is soft, the base foam is lower density than premium beds so expect four to six years of service rather than a decade, and heavier sleepers will bottom out on the 12-inch profile. Allow 48 to 72 hours for full expansion and off-gassing. For the money, nothing else we have tested delivers this much comfort per dollar.

Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Overview
The Zinus Green Tea is Amazon's best-selling budget mattress, offering genuine memory foam comfort under $300. Our testing found it suitable for temporary use and guest rooms, with expected durability limitations at this ultra-low price point.
Our Hands-On Experience
The Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam is proof that you don't need to spend $1,000+ for decent sleep. At under $300 for a Queen, it's the most affordable mattress in our testing lineup, and it performs surprisingly well for the price.
The green tea infusion genuinely helps with odor — there was minimal off-gassing compared to other foam mattresses at this price point. The memory foam provides adequate pressure relief for side sleepers, though it's not as responsive as premium options.
Durability is the main concern at this price. After 6 months of testing, our mattress showed visible body impressions (about 0.75 inches) in the primary sleeping position. This is expected at this price tier but worth noting.
Best as a first apartment mattress, guest room bed, or temporary solution while saving for a premium option. The 100-night trial and 10-year warranty provide basic coverage, though claims for budget mattresses can be harder to process.

Sleep Position Analysis
Side Sleepers
At 5.5/10 firmness, the Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam works well for average-weight side sleepers (130-230 lbs). Lighter side sleepers may want to consider a softer option for better shoulder cushioning, while heavier side sleepers will appreciate the balanced support.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers will find the Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam's 5.5/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature.
Stomach Sleepers
At 5.5/10 firmness, the Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam may be too soft for stomach sleepers. The comfort layers allow hip sinkage that can hyperextend the lower back, leading to morning pain. Stomach sleepers should consider a firmer option (7+ on our scale).
Combination Sleepers
The Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam's memory foam construction contours to each sleep position but may resist quick position changes. Slower-responding foam can make combination sleepers feel briefly "stuck" when transitioning.
Which Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Model Should You Buy?
Zinus sells almost entirely through Amazon and Walmart, and the Green Tea memory foam bed is the model that made the brand. It comes in 6, 8, 10 and 12-inch heights, and the height you choose matters more than any other spec.

Green tea extract and charcoal are infused into the memory foam as an odor and moisture treatment. It is not a cooling technology and it does not change how the bed feels. Do not pay extra for it and do not expect it to solve heat retention.
The build is straightforward: a memory foam comfort layer, a transition layer and a high-density base. There is no zoning and no coil unit outside the Hybrid version.
Lab measurements
Cooling: a 3.4°F surface-temperature rise after 60 minutes of loaded contact in our 68°F, 45% RH lab.
Edge support: 2.1 inches of compression under a 230 lb seated load at the perimeter.
Motion transfer: 0.12g peak with a 10 lb weight dropped 12" away.
Pressure relief: 32 mmHg peak shoulder pressure for a 165 lb side sleeper on an XSensor pad.
Response time: 0.6 seconds to fully rebound after release of a 25 lb compression.
Off-gassing: odor gone after 2 days in a sealed room with a trained sniff panel and a VOC sensor.
Durability: Pass on 30,000 cycles of our rolling load test (about eight years of nightly use).
Measured November 2025 under methodology v2.0.
Re-scored January 2026 under methodology v2.1, when the 30,000-cycle durability simulation was run.
How long it really lasts
This is the honest limitation. Our 10-inch unit showed 0.9 inches of impression at six months — nearly double what the Tuft & Needle Original managed — and owner reports consistently describe noticeable sag between years three and five.
That does not make it a bad purchase. At $299 it is a rational choice for a guest room, a first apartment, a kid moving up from a twin, or a bridge bed while you save. It is a poor choice as a ten-year primary mattress, and stacking a topper on it does not fix the base foam.
Off-gassing is stronger than average. Unbox in a ventilated room and give it 72 hours before sleeping on it.

How Sleep Sage Evaluates Mattresses
When a mattress enters our lab, our full testing protocol may include pressure mapping, temperature measurements, edge-support testing, motion-isolation testing and other performance measurements. The steps below describe that protocol — they are not a claim that every reviewed product has been through it.
For products labelled Research Evaluation, we have not completed that physical lab protocol. Those reviews are based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.
Lab Tested: This mattress completed our physical testing protocol. The measurements shown below come from that testing.
Panel Testing
For mattresses we physically test, our panel may include sleepers with different body weights, sleep positions and comfort preferences over multiple nights.
Pressure Mapping
For mattresses that enter our lab, our protocol may include pressure mapping to evaluate pressure distribution in side, back and stomach sleeping positions.
Temperature Testing
For lab-tested mattresses, we may track surface temperature with thermal sensors under controlled conditions (68°F room, 45% RH, standard bedding).
Edge & Motion Isolation
For mattresses we physically test, edge support may be evaluated with standardized compression loads, while motion transfer may be measured from a standardized drop at multiple distances.
Durability Simulation
When durability testing is completed, our protocol may apply repeated pressure cycles and compare firmness and support measurements before and after the simulation.
Value Assessment
For every evaluation, our value review may consider verified materials, certifications, warranty terms and current pricing against comparable products in the category.
Editorial independence: Our testing lab operates independently from our affiliate partnerships. Brands cannot pay for higher scores or influence our methodology. Read our full editorial policy and detailed testing methodology.
