Our verdict

The One is the direct replacement for the discontinued Casper Original and the cheapest way into the current lineup. Three foam layers, a medium-firm 6.5/10 feel, and Casper's zoned support under the hips make it a safe pick for back and combination sleepers who want the brand without hybrid pricing.

Sleep Position Analysis

Side Sleepers

At 6.5/10 firmness, the Casper The One works well for average-weight side sleepers (130-230 lbs). Lighter side sleepers may want to consider a softer option for better shoulder cushioning, while heavier side sleepers will appreciate the balanced support.

Back Sleepers

Back sleepers will find the Casper The One's 6.5/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers need a firmer surface to prevent hip sinkage and lower back strain. At 6.5/10, the Casper The One provides the flat, supportive surface stomach sleepers need.

Combination Sleepers

The Casper The One's memory foam construction contours to each sleep position but may resist quick position changes. Slower-responding foam can make combination sleepers feel briefly "stuck" when transitioning.

Which Casper The One Model Should You Buy?

The One sits at the bottom of Casper's 2026 ladder and is the model that replaced the Casper Original. Here is how the whole lineup compares so you can see exactly what stepping up buys you. Queen prices are the everyday promotional price, not Casper's comp value.

What changed from the Casper Original to The One

The Casper Original was the mattress that launched the bed-in-a-box category in 2014, and it stayed in the lineup, lightly revised, for a decade. The One is its successor: same 11-inch height, same three-layer foam philosophy, same zoned support concept where the foam under the hips is firmer than the foam under the shoulders.

What actually changed is the foam formulation and the price position. The top layer is more breathable than the original AirScape layer, the transition foam is firmer, and Casper repositioned the model as the entry point of the range rather than the hero product. On promotion, a queen lands near $919 โ€” less than the Original cost for most of its life.

That is firmer than the average bed-in-a-box, and it is the single most important thing to know before buying: The One rewards back and stomach sleepers and punishes lightweight strict side sleepers, who will find the shoulder does not sink far enough.

Who The One is actually right for

Back sleepers get the most out of it. The zoned layer holds the pelvis up so the lumbar curve stays supported, and the medium-firm surface keeps you from settling into a hammock shape over the course of the night. Stomach sleepers are similarly well served, since the firmness stops the hips from dropping below the shoulders.

Couples do well here too. Motion isolation on an all-foam Casper is excellent โ€” one of the quietest surfaces we test โ€” so a partner with a different schedule is unlikely to wake you.

The two groups we steer away: hot sleepers, because no amount of perforated foam competes with the coil-and-QuickCool combination in the Snow line, and side sleepers under about 130 pounds, who should look at Cloud One instead.

How to pick between The One, Dream, Snow and the Max models

Casper's lineup is easier to read than it looks because it varies along only two axes: support depth and cooling. The One and Cloud One are the all-foam tier. Dream and Snow are the 12-inch hybrid tier. Dream Max and Snow Max are the 14-inch tier. Within each tier, the "Snow" name always means the cooling package โ€” Snow Technology foam plus the QuickCool cool-to-the-touch cover.

So the decision is two questions. First: do you sleep hot? If night sweats or hot flashes wake you up, you want Snow or Snow Max and nothing else in the lineup will fix it. Second: do you have back, hip or shoulder pain, or do you weigh more than about 230 pounds? If yes, step up to the 14-inch Max tier for the thicker comfort layer and deeper coil unit.

If neither applies, Dream is the answer. It is the medium-feel hybrid that suits the widest range of sleepers, it has the coil edge support that Casper's foam beds lack, and at roughly $1,400 on promotion it is the best value in the range.

Only choose the all-foam tier if budget is the constraint or you specifically want a quiet, motion-isolating foam feel. Between the two, The One is medium-firm and suits back and stomach sleepers, while Cloud One's Core+ layer makes it the side-sleeper option.

Trial, warranty and delivery โ€” what Casper actually covers

Every Casper mattress ships free in a box with a 100-night risk-free trial and a 10-year limited warranty. Casper asks you to sleep on the mattress for at least 30 nights before starting a return, which is reasonable โ€” foam and hybrid beds both change feel over the first few weeks as the layers finish expanding and your body adapts.

Returns are free and Casper arranges pickup or donation rather than making you re-box the mattress. That matters more on the 14-inch Max models, which are genuinely heavy and not something one person should wrestle down a staircase.

Optional white glove delivery is available at checkout if you want the old mattress hauled away and the new one set up in the room. On the Snow Max and Dream Max we think it is worth the add-on; on The One and Cloud One the box is manageable for two people.

One underrated Casper advantage: retail. Casper mattresses are in physical stores and in select retail partners, so unlike most bed-in-a-box brands you can lie on The One, Dream and Snow before ordering. If you are torn between firmness levels, spend fifteen minutes in a store and then buy online through whatever promotion is running.

Construction & Materials Review

We document the mattress's published layer construction, materials, densities and cover fabrics from manufacturer specifications and supporting documentation.

Specification & Certification Verification

We check published specifications, certifications and material claims against the manufacturer's own documentation, and flag anything we cannot confirm.
