The ComfortNext Ultra is the top of the ComfortNext collection — 14 inches of Sleep Number's most advanced non-Climate technology. It delivers maximum pressure relief for hips, shoulders, knees, and lower back, with 175% more built-in cooling materials than the ComfortMode and maximum airflow design. The "Ultra support" designation means denser, more substantial foam layers surrounding the air chambers. At $4,499, it's just $500 below the ClimateCool, making the value proposition interesting — you get nearly all the comfort without the active heating/cooling of the Climate series.

The ComfortNext Ultra is Sleep Number's maximum non-Climate offering. At 14 inches and $4,499, it's thick, luxurious, and packed with their best comfort technology — minus the active heating/cooling of the Climate series.
Interesting value consideration: the ClimateCool starts at $4,949, just $450 more. If active cooling is important to you, the ClimateCool might be the better buy. But if you want maximum comfort layer thickness and don't need aggressive cooling, the Ultra delivers.

Back sleepers will find the Sleep Number ComfortNext Ultra's 5/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature.
Stomach Sleepers
At 5/10 firmness, the Sleep Number ComfortNext Ultra may be too soft for stomach sleepers. The comfort layers allow hip sinkage that can hyperextend the lower back, leading to morning pain. Stomach sleepers should consider a firmer option (7+ on our scale).
Combination Sleepers

Heavier side sleepers — roughly 200 pounds and up — compress through thinner comfort stacks and end up resting partly on the air chamber. The Ultra's ultra-deep relief system is built for exactly that body type, and it's the only ComfortNext we'd recommend above that weight for dedicated side sleepers.
Lighter sleepers and back sleepers are buying cushion they won't use; the Lux is the rational choice there.
Ultra versus Climate360: the real decision
At $4,499 against $6,999, the question is whether the Climate360's warming function and dual-zone active climate are worth $2,500. For cold sleepers and couples with opposite temperature needs, it often is. For everyone else, the Ultra covers cooling-plus-cushion at a meaningfully lower price.
Note that the Climate360 also integrates its base, so compare total system prices rather than mattress stickers.
