Tempur-Pedic commercialized the viscoelastic foam originally developed by NASA in the 1970s to cushion astronauts during launch. The Swedish-founded company brought TEMPUR material to market in the early 1990s, and the material remains associated with a particularly slow-responding, conforming feel.
