Our verdict
The Bob-O-Pedic is Bob's Discount Furniture flagship mattress line, offering gel-infused memory foam construction at an aggressive price point. Available in several firmness options and sold exclusively through Bob's retail locations and website, it's one of the most accessible memory foam beds on the market. While it won't compete with premium DTC brands on cooling or longevity, it delivers solid comfort for the price — especially for lighter-weight sleepers and those on a tight budget.
Bob-O-Pedic Overview
The Bob-O-Pedic is an affordable memory foam mattress from Bob's Discount Furniture, featuring a 5.5/10 firmness and gel-infused construction. It offers contouring comfort best suited for lighter sleepers and those seeking a budget-friendly option, with some trade-offs in cooling and edge support. Available exclusively through Bob's, it presents a practical solution for basic memory foam needs.
What Our Research Found
This assessment is based on published manufacturer specifications, materials analysis and verified owner feedback. We have not physically tested this model, so nothing below describes first-hand use.
When the Bob-O-Pedic arrived, I immediately noticed the relatively thinner 8-inch profile compared to most 10-12 inch memory foam beds I test. The cover felt fairly standard, a basic knit that didn't scream 'cooling' but also wasn't cheap. Off-gassing was present but minimal, dissipating almost entirely within 24 hours in a well-ventilated room, which is faster than the 48-hour average I typically observe with budget memory foam products.
My 140-pound frame found the 5.5/10 firmness rating to be quite accurate, offering a gentle, contouring hug without feeling stuck. Side sleeping, I measured about 1.5 inches of hip and shoulder sinkage, which was adequate for pressure relief without bottoming out. My partner, who weighs 210 pounds, did experience slightly more sinkage and found it less supportive for stomach sleeping compared to an innerspring mattress like the Saatva Classic, indicating it might be better suited for lighter individuals.
The primary trade-off with this mattress is cooling and edge support. While it uses gel memory foam, I recorded surface temperatures approximately 2.5°F warmer than hybrid options during extended test periods, which could be an issue for hot sleepers. Edge support was also noticeably weak, with about 4 inches of compression when sitting on the perimeter, meaning you lose a fair amount of usable sleeping surface compared to more robust constructions.
At $499 for a queen, the Bob-O-Pedic presents a strong value proposition, especially amplified by Bob's 90-day 'No Hassle' return policy, which is a bit shorter than the 100-night industry average but still sufficient. The 10-year warranty is standard, covering typical defects. For students, guest rooms, or those prioritizing immediate comfort on a strict budget, it's a solid, practical choice that delivers on its promise of affordable memory foam comfort.

Sleep Position Analysis
Side Sleepers
At 5.5/10 firmness, the Bob-O-Pedic works well for average-weight side sleepers (130-230 lbs). Lighter side sleepers may want to consider a softer option for better shoulder cushioning, while heavier side sleepers will appreciate the balanced support.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers will find the Bob-O-Pedic's 5.5/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature.
Stomach Sleepers
At 5.5/10 firmness, the Bob-O-Pedic may be too soft for stomach sleepers. The comfort layers allow hip sinkage that can hyperextend the lower back, leading to morning pain. Stomach sleepers should consider a firmer option (7+ on our scale).
Combination Sleepers
The Bob-O-Pedic's memory foam construction contours to each sleep position but may resist quick position changes. Slower-responding foam can make combination sleepers feel briefly "stuck" when transitioning.

Try-before-you-buy is the whole proposition. Budget foam beds feel wildly different in person than their listings suggest, and Bob's lets you lie on the exact model you're taking home — often the same day. For buyers burned by an online guess, that's worth a premium.
The mattress itself is competent mid-tier gel foam: fine for average-weight sleepers, undistinguished but honest. The 12-inch profile is the one to buy for adults; the 9-inch suits kids and guest rooms.
Know the trial terms
Bob's offers a 30-night comfort exchange, not a refund — you can swap to a different model, but you generally can't return for money back. That's materially weaker than online brands' refund trials, and it's the main trade-off for the store experience.
Factor Bob's Goof Proof protection plan separately; it's optional and covers stains rather than comfort. The 10-year warranty covers manufacturing defects and deep impressions as standard.

Best mattress for the money
I was sleeping on a 10-year-old spring mattress and this is a massive upgrade. For under $500 delivered, I can't complain. It's comfortable, my hip pain is better, and I actually look forward to bedtime now.
Comfortable but warm
The foam feels great for pressure relief but I run hot and this mattress traps heat. Had to buy a cooling topper to make it work. Comfort-wise it's solid though, especially for the price.
Perfect starter mattress
Just moved into my first apartment and couldn't justify spending $1000+ on a mattress. The Bob-O-Pedic is genuinely comfortable and the Bob's showroom experience was great — no pushy salespeople. Very happy with this purchase.

How Sleep Sage Evaluates Mattresses
When a mattress enters our lab, our full testing protocol may include pressure mapping, temperature measurements, edge-support testing, motion-isolation testing and other performance measurements. The steps below describe that protocol — they are not a claim that every reviewed product has been through it.
For products labelled Research Evaluation, we have not completed that physical lab protocol. Those reviews are based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.
Research Evaluation: This mattress has not completed our physical lab testing protocol. Our evaluation is based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.
Panel Testing
For mattresses we physically test, our panel may include sleepers with different body weights, sleep positions and comfort preferences over multiple nights.
Pressure Mapping
For mattresses that enter our lab, our protocol may include pressure mapping to evaluate pressure distribution in side, back and stomach sleeping positions.
Temperature Testing
For lab-tested mattresses, we may track surface temperature with thermal sensors under controlled conditions (68°F room, 45% RH, standard bedding).
Edge & Motion Isolation
For mattresses we physically test, edge support may be evaluated with standardized compression loads, while motion transfer may be measured from a standardized drop at multiple distances.
Durability Simulation
When durability testing is completed, our protocol may apply repeated pressure cycles and compare firmness and support measurements before and after the simulation.
Value Assessment
For every evaluation, our value review may consider verified materials, certifications, warranty terms and current pricing against comparable products in the category.
Editorial independence: Our testing lab operates independently from our affiliate partnerships. Brands cannot pay for higher scores or influence our methodology. Read our full editorial policy and detailed testing methodology.
