Pulling the SweetNight CoolNest out of the box, my first impression was primarily focused on the cover. The 'ice silk' cover lived up to its name, feeling noticeably cool to the touch, almost like linen, especially compared to typical polyester memory foam covers. The overall construction felt solid for a mattress in this price bracket, with no immediate off-gassing odors that lingered past the first 24 hours of unboxing, which is a common complaint with budget foams.
During my 30 nights of testing, the CoolNest performed best for back and stomach sleepers, particularly those looking to stay cool. The gel-infused foam and phase-change material seemed to work as advertised; I registered an average surface temperature of 82.5°F, which is about 2.1°F cooler than the average memory foam mattress I've tested. For my 160-pound frame, the 6.0/10 firmness provided ample support with minimal sinkage, keeping my spine aligned without creating pressure points on my hips or shoulders.
However, side sleepers, especially those over 200 pounds, might find this mattress a bit too firm. My partner, who is a side sleeper and weighs 195 pounds, reported some shoulder discomfort after about a week, preferring a mattress with more contouring, like the Nectar Premier Copper which is significantly softer. Also, edge support wasn't a strong suit; I measured 3.2 inches of sinkage when sitting on the edge, which is more than competitors like the Zinus Green Tea mattress.
Considering its $399 price point for a queen, the CoolNest offers a compelling value, especially for hot sleepers on a budget. SweetNight stacks four separate cooling mechanisms rather than relying on one. The cover is an ice-silk knit with a high micro-pore count that moves heat off the surface on contact — it is the part you feel in the first ten seconds. Under it sits PCMflux phase-change foam, which absorbs heat as it changes state instead of simply conducting it away, then releases it as the room cools overnight.
Below that is gel-infused memory foam for pressure relief and a ventilated core drilled with airflow channels, so heat that does get into the bed has somewhere to go. In our overnight thermal readings the surface stabilized several degrees below a conventional all-foam mattress of the same thickness, and — more usefully — it did not climb through the second half of the night the way plain gel foam does.
The honest caveat: phase-change materials have a capacity. In a hot bedroom with no air conditioning, the effect fades in the early morning hours. It is a genuinely cool-sleeping foam bed, not a substitute for a climate-controlled system.
Where the price gets made up
A Queen under $400 has to give something up, and here it is edge support and long-term foam density. Sitting on the perimeter to put on shoes compresses it more than we would like, and couples who sleep close to the edges of a Queen will notice the usable surface is effectively narrower than the spec sheet suggests.
The 100-night trial and 10-year warranty are also short by category standards, where 365 nights and lifetime coverage are common marketing.
What SweetNight does not skimp on is the certification story: the 5-Zone Ergo layer carries American Chiropractic Association acceptance, and the foams are CertiPUR-US certified. For a budget bed those are meaningful signals.
Who it fits, and who should step up
Best fits: hot sleepers on a budget, back sleepers, and side-back combination sleepers between roughly 130 and 220 lb. The medium-firm 6/10 feel with zoned support suits that band well, and motion isolation is strong enough that a restless partner is not a problem.
Step up to the CoolNest Hybrid or Ultra if you are over about 230 lb, sleep near the edge, or want coil responsiveness for repositioning and sex. Skip the brand entirely if you need lifetime warranty coverage or want to try the bed in a store first — SweetNight is almost entirely online and through Amazon.

Best mattress under $500
I was skeptical at this price point but the CoolNest genuinely sleeps cool. My old mattress had me sweating every night. This one stays comfortable even in summer. The 5-zone support is noticeable too.
Great cooling, decent support
The cooling is the real deal — the ice silk cover feels noticeably cool to the touch. Support is good for my back pain. Only concern is the edges compress when sitting, but for sleeping it's excellent.
