The Mercer is the step up from the true bargain tier and the Amazon hybrid we would actually consider for a primary bed on a tight budget. Twelve inches with a quilted pillow-top puts real cushioning above the coils, which is what the sub-$250 hybrids are missing, and it lands soft — around a 5 on our firmness scale — so side sleepers get shoulder relief that budget beds rarely provide. Classic Brands has been manufacturing for decades and the build quality shows in the cover stitching and coil unit. The compromises remain budget compromises: the perimeter is unreinforced, the plush top will develop a body impression sooner than a premium bed, and there is no sleep trial beyond Amazon's standard returns.

A quilted pillow top at this price is genuinely nice on night one and it's the reason the Mercer sells. It's also the part that wears first: quilting fibers compress and the surface loses loft before the coils or base foam show any problem.
Firmness lands around 5 out of 10 — plush. Side sleepers get real pressure relief. Stomach sleepers and heavier back sleepers should take the firmer Engage or Gramercy instead; the hips drift on the Mercer.
Coils, edges and couples
The pocket coil unit has a reinforced perimeter, so edge support is better than most sub-$500 hybrids — you can sit on the side without collapsing it. Motion isolation is mid-pack: the coils transmit some movement, but the thick comfort layer absorbs most of it.
Airflow through the coils keeps the Mercer from sleeping hot despite the deep foam layers, and the gel infusion helps at the surface. Hot sleepers will still find it warmer than a firm hybrid with less foam.
Where you buy it changes the deal
Costco sells it with Costco's return policy, which is dramatically better than Amazon's 30 days and is the single strongest reason to buy this mattress there if you have a membership. Wayfair and Amazon run shorter windows.
The warranty is 10 years limited, covering defects and sag past a defined depth. As always at this price tier, gradual softening of the pillow top is excluded, and that is the thing most likely to end the mattress's useful life.
