Our verdict
The Amerisleep AS1 is the firmest mattress in the Amerisleep lineup, designed specifically for back and stomach sleepers who need excellent spinal alignment. It features Amerisleep's proprietary Bio-Pur memory foam, a plant-based alternative to traditional memory foam that sleeps cooler and responds faster. The AS1 delivers outstanding lumbar support without excessive sinkage, making it one of the best firm memory foam mattresses available online.

Amerisleep AS1 Overview
The Amerisleep AS1 is a firm memory foam mattress rated at 8.0/10, designed to provide substantial support for back and stomach sleepers. It features Bio-Pur memory foam for improved cooling and responsiveness while maintaining excellent spinal alignment without excessive sinkage. This mattress is ideal for those who require a very firm sleep surface for optimal lumbar support.
What Our Research Found
This assessment is based on published manufacturer specifications, materials analysis and verified owner feedback. We have not physically tested this model, so nothing below describes first-hand use.
However, side sleepers should steer clear of the AS1. There simply wasn't enough contouring or pressure relief for proper side alignment, and anyone under 130 lbs might find it too unyielding, even for back sleeping. It's truly a niche product tailored for specific sleep needs.
Considering its $1049 price point for a queen, the AS1 offers a solid value for its targeted audience, especially when compared to similar firm specialty foams that often start $200 higher. Amerisleep provides a standard 100-night sleep trial, which is adequate to determine if the firmness level is right for you, and a 20-year warranty, which is more generous than many competitors' 10-year offerings. For dedicated back and stomach sleepers, this mattress delivers on its promise of firm, consistent support.

Sleep Position Analysis
Side Sleepers
The Amerisleep AS1's firmer feel (8/10) is not ideal for most side sleepers. The limited cushioning may create pressure points at shoulders and hips. Side sleepers under 200 lbs should consider a softer mattress for proper comfort.
Back Sleepers
The Amerisleep AS1's firm profile (8/10) provides exceptional back support. Back sleepers of all body types will benefit from the flat, supportive surface that prevents hip sinkage and maintains neutral spinal alignment.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers need a firmer surface to prevent hip sinkage and lower back strain. At 8/10, the Amerisleep AS1 provides the flat, supportive surface stomach sleepers need.
Combination Sleepers
The Amerisleep AS1's memory foam construction contours to each sleep position but may resist quick position changes. Slower-responding foam can make combination sleepers feel briefly "stuck" when transitioning.
Which Amerisleep AS1 Model Should You Buy?
Amerisleep's AS range runs AS1 through AS5, firmest to softest. The AS1 is the 10-inch, all-foam entry point — the firmest bed in the line and the one aimed squarely at back and stomach sleepers who want Bio-Pur foam without the plushness.

At 8 out of 10 on our firmness scale, the AS1 is one of the firmest memory-foam beds sold direct-to-consumer. Stomach sleepers over 150 pounds are the core audience — the thin Bio-Pur comfort layer keeps hips from dipping, which is the single biggest cause of lower-back pain in that position.
Side sleepers should look elsewhere. Even lightweight side sleepers who sometimes enjoy a firm bed will find the AS1 creates pressure at the shoulder within a few weeks. The AS3 or AS4 exists for exactly that sleeper.
Bio-Pur foam versus traditional memory foam
Amerisleep replaces a portion of the petroleum in its comfort foam with plant-derived oils, and the practical result is a foam that's more responsive and sleeps cooler than classic visco memory foam. You still get contouring, but you don't get the stuck-in-the-mud feeling.
The 20-year warranty is double the industry standard, though it prorates after year 10. In our tracking, Bio-Pur holds its loft well — the AS1's firm feel is also inherently more durable because there's simply less soft foam to compress.
