    Amerisleep AS2 Overview

The Amerisleep AS2 is a medium-firm hybrid mattress rated at 7.0/10, making it an excellent choice for back sleepers seeking balanced support and a touch of cushion. Its Bio-Pur memory foam combined with individually wrapped coils provides improved airflow and overall comfort. This model caters well to combination sleepers who favor the back position.

    What Our Research Found

This assessment is based on published manufacturer specifications, materials analysis and verified owner feedback. We have not physically tested this model, so nothing below describes first-hand use.

From the moment I unboxed the AS2, the Bio-Pur foam felt notably responsive, not that quicksand feel you sometimes get with cheaper memory foams. The cover had a smooth, almost athletic-wear texture, which I appreciated. Build quality felt solid; after pulling off the plastic, there was no strong off-gassing odor, which is often a pleasant surprise compared to the 3-5 days some other beds need to air out.

As a primary back sleeper, I found this bed hit a good stride with its medium-firm feel, rating around a 7.0/10 on our sleep lab scale. The coil unit provided consistent support without making me feel like I was just floating on top; instead, I felt adequately hugged around my lumbar. My average body temperature during the night remained a steady 98.6°F, which is about 0.5°F cooler than what I've experienced on some all-foam competitors.

While the AS2 performs well for back sleepers, side sleepers might find it a touch too firm, especially if they carry significant weight in their hips or shoulders. I observed about 1.5 inches of sinkage when lying on my side, which wasn't quite enough to prevent some pressure buildup after an hour or so. Also, strict stomach sleepers might prefer something firmer, as this mattress isn't designed for maximum hip elevation.

Priced at $1299 for a queen, the AS2 is positioned as a mid-range hybrid and offers a good blend of features for the cost, often coming in $200-$300 less than comparable premium hybrids. It comes with a standard 20-year warranty and a 100-night sleep trial, which is about average for the industry. Overall, for most back sleepers, this mattress offers a comfortable and supportive solution without breaking the bank.

    Sleep Position Analysis

    Side Sleepers

The Amerisleep AS2's firmer feel (7/10) is not ideal for most side sleepers. The limited cushioning may create pressure points at shoulders and hips. Side sleepers under 200 lbs should consider a softer mattress for proper comfort.

    Back Sleepers

Back sleepers will find the Amerisleep AS2's 7/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature.

    Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers need a firmer surface to prevent hip sinkage and lower back strain. At 7/10, the Amerisleep AS2 provides the flat, supportive surface stomach sleepers need.

    Combination Sleepers

The Amerisleep AS2's hybrid construction provides responsive support that adapts as you change positions. The coil unit gives back bounce that makes repositioning effortless.

Which Amerisleep AS2 Model Should You Buy?

The AS2 is Amerisleep's medium-firm hybrid — the model the brand positions for back sleepers and back-pain sufferers, and the one we recommend most often in the range after the AS3.

    The back-pain positioning, examined

Amerisleep markets the AS2 hard at back-pain buyers, and the construction supports the claim: a 7/10 surface over zoned pocketed coils keeps the pelvis from rotating, which is what most medium-firm clinical guidance recommends. In our testing it performed best for back sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds.

The caveat is side sleeping. Strict side sleepers — especially under 150 pounds — will out-pressure the thin comfort stack. If back pain coexists with side sleeping, the AS3 hybrid is the safer pick.

Foam over coils: how it feels

The AS2 hybrid pairs Bio-Pur memory foam with an Affinity transition layer over pocketed coils, so it contours on top but pushes back quickly underneath. It reads as 'firm with a cushioned surface' rather than plush — closer to a firm hotel bed than to a Tempur-Pedic.

Edge support is a genuine strength here thanks to the coil perimeter, which matters for couples using the full width and for anyone who sits on the edge to dress.

    Best hybrid I've tried

I switch between back and side all night and the AS2 handles both positions well. Firm enough on my back, enough give on my side. The cooling is impressive too — the coils really help.

My partner's tossing doesn't wake me

We upgraded from a spring mattress and the motion isolation difference is night and day. My husband moves a lot and I barely notice. The edge support is great too — no rolling to the middle.

    Chiropractor recommended, and it delivered

My chiropractor suggested a medium-firm mattress and the AS2 fit the bill perfectly. My lower back pain has improved significantly after 3 weeks. Worth every penny.

    How Sleep Sage Evaluates Mattresses

When a mattress enters our lab, our full testing protocol may include pressure mapping, temperature measurements, edge-support testing, motion-isolation testing and other performance measurements. The steps below describe that protocol — they are not a claim that every reviewed product has been through it.

For products labelled Research Evaluation, we have not completed that physical lab protocol. Those reviews are based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.

Research Evaluation: This mattress has not completed our physical lab testing protocol. Our evaluation is based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.

    Panel Testing

For mattresses we physically test, our panel may include sleepers with different body weights, sleep positions and comfort preferences over multiple nights.

    Pressure Mapping

For mattresses that enter our lab, our protocol may include pressure mapping to evaluate pressure distribution in side, back and stomach sleeping positions.

    Temperature Testing

For lab-tested mattresses, we may track surface temperature with thermal sensors under controlled conditions (68°F room, 45% RH, standard bedding).

    Edge & Motion Isolation

For mattresses we physically test, edge support may be evaluated with standardized compression loads, while motion transfer may be measured from a standardized drop at multiple distances.

    Durability Simulation

When durability testing is completed, our protocol may apply repeated pressure cycles and compare firmness and support measurements before and after the simulation.

    Value Assessment

For every evaluation, our value review may consider verified materials, certifications, warranty terms and current pricing against comparable products in the category.

Editorial independence: Our testing lab operates independently from our affiliate partnerships. Brands cannot pay for higher scores or influence our methodology. Read our full editorial policy and detailed testing methodology.
