    Our verdict

Beautyrest Black is Simmons' flagship line and the closest thing in retail to a luxury hotel bed you can buy under $2,500. T3 Pocketed Coil Technology uses triple-strand coils that resist deflection under heavier loads, which is why it held its shape better than any other innerspring in our long-term compression testing, and BlackICE surface treatment pulls heat away from the top layers. The 14-inch profile with a plush quilted top lands at a medium-firm 6.5, ideal for back sleepers, couples with different body weights, and anyone above 230 lbs who has flattened foam beds. Motion isolation is strong for a coil bed but not memory-foam quiet. It is heavy, requires two people to move, and carries a 100-night trial with a 10-year warranty.

    Beautyrest Black Overview

The Beautyrest Black delivers luxury hotel-grade sleep with T3 Pocketed Coil Technology and BlackICE cooling. Our testing confirmed premium build quality and responsiveness, though the warranty lags behind competitors at this price tier.

    Video Review

    Our Hands-On Experience

The Beautyrest Black is designed to compete with luxury hotel mattresses, and it largely succeeds. The T3 Pocketed Coil Technology uses triple-stranded coils that provide more responsive support than standard single-strand designs. I could feel the difference — the mattress adapts faster to position changes.

BlackICE cooling technology combines memory foam with a cooling fiber designed to absorb heat and wick moisture. In our thermal testing, it performed well for a memory foam mattress, though it still can't match pure coil or latex designs for breathability.

White glove delivery is included, and the experience was professional and efficient. At $2,199, the Beautyrest Black positions itself as a luxury purchase, and the delivery experience reinforces that positioning.

My main concern is the 10-year warranty at this price point. Competitors offering lifetime warranties (DreamCloud, WinkBed, Nectar) provide more long-term peace of mind. For a $2,200 mattress, I'd expect lifetime coverage.

    Sleep Position Analysis

    Side Sleepers

At 6.5/10 firmness, the Beautyrest Black works well for average-weight side sleepers (130-230 lbs). Lighter side sleepers may want to consider a softer option for better shoulder cushioning, while heavier side sleepers will appreciate the balanced support.

    Back Sleepers

Back sleepers will find the Beautyrest Black's 6.5/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature.

    Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers need a firmer surface to prevent hip sinkage and lower back strain. At 6.5/10, the Beautyrest Black provides the flat, supportive surface stomach sleepers need. Our testers confirmed minimal hip depression during prone sleeping.

    Combination Sleepers

The Beautyrest Black's hybrid construction provides responsive support that adapts as you change positions. The coil unit gives back bounce that makes repositioning effortless.

Which Beautyrest Black Model Should You Buy?

Beautyrest Black is no longer a set of letter-class beds — Simmons reorganized the flagship line into three families sold by series number. The original Black innerspring runs Series One through Four, Black Hybrid runs Series One through Four, and the newest Black Hybrid XCS runs Series Three, Four and Five with the brand's most aggressive cooling package. Every model shares Triple-Stranded T3 Pocketed Coils and a BlackICE cover; the series number tells you how much foam, micro-coil and cooling sits above the support unit. Prices below are the current sale price from beautyrest.com at the smallest available size (twin XL); a queen typically runs $300–$500 higher, and Simmons discounts the line hard around the major holiday weekends. Our older K-Class, C-Class and L-Class reviews map to the current range as noted.

Which Beautyrest Black series is actually worth the money?

The series number is a materials ladder, not a comfort ladder. Every Black bed uses the same Triple-Stranded T3 Pocketed Coil unit, so the support layer you sleep on is identical from Series One to Series Five. What changes as you move up is the amount of specialty foam, micro-coil and cooling material stacked above it. That matters most for side sleepers and heavier sleepers, who need more material between their shoulder and the coils, and it matters least for back sleepers under 200 lbs.

In our testing, the sharpest value in the entire assortment is the Black Hybrid Series One. It gets you the flagship coil unit and the BlackICE cover for roughly a third of what the Series Four models cost. Step up to Series Three only if you sleep on your side, weigh over 230 lbs, or have been bottoming out on previous beds. Step up to Series Four or Five XCS only if you specifically want a plush pillow-top feel — you are paying for foam thickness at that point, not for better support.

The XCS models are the 2026 cooling generation. If heat is the reason you are replacing your mattress, XCS is the only sub-family worth targeting; the difference between a standard BlackICE cover and the XCS package was the largest surface-temperature gap we measured inside a single brand's range.

How the old K-Class, C-Class and L-Class map to today's lineup

Simmons retired the letter-class naming, but the beds are still on retail floors and in closeout inventory, and our individual reviews stay live because those units are still worth buying at clearance pricing. K-Class was the ultra-plush 16.5-inch pillow top; its replacement is Black Series Four in the plush pillow-top feel. C-Class was the medium, cooling-forward model; the closest current equivalent is Black Hybrid Series Two or Series Three XCS. L-Class was the extra-firm build; Black Series Three in firm or extra firm is the successor.

If you find a K-Class or C-Class discounted below the equivalent current series, it is a legitimate buy. The coil unit and warranty terms are the same, and the older BlackICE generation still tested cooler than most competing innersprings. What you give up is the XCS cooling refinement and the split-head sizes that the newest models offer for adjustable bases.

    Where Beautyrest Black falls short

The warranty is 10 years, which is short for a bed at this price. Saatva, WinkBed and several DTC hybrids offer lifetime coverage at a lower entry price. The trial is 100 nights and, because most Black units are sold through retail partners, the return terms depend on the retailer rather than on Simmons — read the store's policy before you buy, not after.

These are also heavy beds. The taller Series Four and Five builds run well over 100 lbs in a queen and require two people plus a deep-pocket sheet set of 18 inches or more. Finally, the discount structure means the list price is largely fictional. Never pay MSRP; the sale price on beautyrest.com is the real price, and holiday weekends add the bundled adjustable-base credit on top.

    How Sleep Sage Evaluates Mattresses

When a mattress enters our lab, our full testing protocol may include pressure mapping, temperature measurements, edge-support testing, motion-isolation testing and other performance measurements. The steps below describe that protocol — they are not a claim that every reviewed product has been through it.

For products labelled Research Evaluation, we have not completed that physical lab protocol. Those reviews are based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.

Lab Tested: This mattress completed our physical testing protocol. The measurements shown below come from that testing.

    Panel Testing

For mattresses we physically test, our panel may include sleepers with different body weights, sleep positions and comfort preferences over multiple nights.

    Pressure Mapping

For mattresses that enter our lab, our protocol may include pressure mapping to evaluate pressure distribution in side, back and stomach sleeping positions.

    Temperature Testing

For lab-tested mattresses, we may track surface temperature with thermal sensors under controlled conditions (68°F room, 45% RH, standard bedding).

    Edge & Motion Isolation

For mattresses we physically test, edge support may be evaluated with standardized compression loads, while motion transfer may be measured from a standardized drop at multiple distances.

    Durability Simulation

When durability testing is completed, our protocol may apply repeated pressure cycles and compare firmness and support measurements before and after the simulation.

    Value Assessment

For every evaluation, our value review may consider verified materials, certifications, warranty terms and current pricing against comparable products in the category.

Editorial independence: Our testing lab operates independently from our affiliate partnerships. Brands cannot pay for higher scores or influence our methodology. Read our full editorial policy and detailed testing methodology.
