About Serta
Serta started in 1931 as a licensing co-operative: independent factories built mattresses to a shared specification and sold them under one name. That structure is still visible today — a Serta sold at a furniture chain in one state may differ in cover and foam spec from the same model name elsewhere.
Serta Simmons Bedding, formed when Serta and Simmons combined ownership, is one of the largest mattress manufacturers in North America. The lineup spans the budget Sertapedic line sold through mass retail, the mainstream Perfect Sleeper, the memory foam iComfort family, and hybrid iComfort/iSeries models.
Serta's strength is availability and price laddering rather than a single standout material. In our testing, Perfect Sleeper hybrids are competent all-rounders; the value depends heavily on which promotion you catch and which retailer's spec you get.

Are Serta mattresses any good?
Serta's mid and upper lines (Perfect Sleeper hybrids and iComfort hybrids) perform respectably for support and motion isolation. The entry-level models sold under $700 are built to a price and soften faster. The brand's biggest weakness is inconsistency: the same model name can be built to different specs for different retailers.
Why is the same Serta model a different price at every store?
Serta sells retailer-exclusive versions. Two mattresses with similar names can differ in coil count, foam density, and cover, which is why prices vary. Compare the spec sheet, not the name.
How long does a Serta mattress last?
Expect roughly 6–8 years from mid-tier hybrids with normal use, and less from the budget all-foam models. Rotating the mattress every three months meaningfully slows body impressions.
