Our Verdict
My Green Mattress is a family operation in Illinois that started when the founder's daughter's eczema pushed the family toward chemical-free bedding, and the Natural Escape is the top of its range. The certification stack is the real story: GOTS-certified organic cotton and wool, GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex, OEKO-TEX testing, and a Greenguard Gold rating — a combination that usually costs $3,000-plus from Avocado or Naturepedic. The build is 3 inches of 22–24 ILD organic Dunlop latex over the Madison pocketed coil unit, which runs up to 1,462 individually wrapped coils with a genuine 7-zone layout: 16-gauge, 10-turn coils around the perimeter for edge support, 15-gauge across the field, and 14.5-gauge through the centre third for lumbar reinforcement. Everything is button-tufted rather than glued, and the wool passes flame testing without chemical retardants or fiberglass. A queen weighs 113 lb with 1,148 coils and lands at $1,682 on the standing sale, against a $1,979 list. Firmness reads medium-firm — around a 6 to 6.5 — which is the right window for back sleepers and most combination sleepers, and slightly firm for lightweight side sleepers.
Ratings Breakdown
How we score (1–10 rubric) →Lab measurements: in the queue
The My Green Mattress Natural Escape has been slept on and scored by our testers, but it has not yet gone through the full instrumented protocol — pressure mapping, thermal imaging, motion transfer and edge-deflection loading. Rather than publish estimated numbers, we leave this table empty until the measurements exist.
Firmness Level
Medium (6/10)
What We Love
- Full GOTS + GOLS + OEKO-TEX + Greenguard Gold certification at roughly half the price of Avocado or Naturepedic
- No polyurethane foam, no chemical flame retardants, no fiberglass anywhere in the build
- Button-tufted construction with no adhesives, which is both cleaner and more durable than glued layers
- 7-zone Madison coil unit with heavier-gauge lumbar coils and reinforced perimeter — real edge support, not a foam rail
- Hand-built in the company's own Illinois factory, not imported
- 365-night trial and 20-year warranty
What Could Be Better
- Medium-firm only — no plush or firm variants of this model
- 113 lb queen makes rotation (recommended quarterly) a two-person job
- Motion isolation is decent but not memory-foam quiet
- Mattress removal is an extra $130 through a third party rather than included
- Dunlop latex has a denser, less buoyant feel than the Talalay used in premium latex beds
- Smaller brand with a shorter track record than Saatva or Avocado
Best For
- Buyers who want genuine organic certification without a $3,000 budget
- Families with chemical sensitivities, eczema, or allergy concerns
- Back sleepers and combination sleepers who want medium-firm support
- Hot sleepers — latex over coils is the coolest-running construction there is
- Anyone who wants a US-made, family-manufactured mattress
Not Ideal For
- Lightweight side sleepers who need a plush surface
- Anyone who wants to pick a firmness at checkout
- Sleepers who want memory foam contouring
- Buyers who need in-room white-glove setup and old mattress haul-away included
Mattress Construction
GOTS Organic Cotton Quilted Cover
Soft organic cotton quilted over GOTS organic wool sewn in underneath — the wool is the flame barrier, so no chemical retardants are used
3" GOLS Organic Dunlop Latex
22–24 ILD, 65 density all-natural Dunlop latex providing the contouring layer with strong airflow
Madison 7-Zone Pocketed Coil Unit
Up to 1,462 fabric-encased coils in an 8-inch tall system: 16-gauge 10-turn perimeter coils, 15-gauge 6-turn field coils, and 14.5-gauge coils through the lumbar third
Button-Tufted Assembly
Layers are secured with button tufts rather than adhesive, which avoids glue off-gassing and keeps layers from shifting
Sleep Position Analysis
Side Sleepers
At 6/10 firmness, the My Green Mattress Natural Escape works well for average-weight side sleepers (130-230 lbs). Lighter side sleepers may want to consider a softer option for better shoulder cushioning, while heavier side sleepers will appreciate the balanced support.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers will find the My Green Mattress Natural Escape's 6/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature. Our back-sleeping testers rated this 9/10 for support.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers need a firmer surface to prevent hip sinkage and lower back strain. At 6/10, the My Green Mattress Natural Escape provides the flat, supportive surface stomach sleepers need. Our testers confirmed minimal hip depression during prone sleeping.
Combination Sleepers
The My Green Mattress Natural Escape's hybrid construction provides responsive support that adapts as you change positions throughout the night. The coil system provides bounce that makes repositioning effortless. Combination sleepers rated this highly in our testing.

Read the full My Green Mattress Natural Escape vs. Spindle Organic Latex comparison →The certification stack, and why it is unusual at this price
'Natural' and 'eco' are unregulated words in the mattress business. GOTS and GOLS are not. GOTS covers the organic cotton and wool through the whole supply chain; GOLS covers the organic latex. My Green Mattress carries both, plus OEKO-TEX testing for harmful substances and a Greenguard Gold rating for low VOC emissions.
That full combination normally starts around $2,500 to $3,000 from Avocado, Naturepedic, or Birch. The Natural Escape lands at $1,682 because the company owns its factory, sells direct, and does not spend on the marketing budgets its competitors run.
There is also no fiberglass anywhere in the mattress. The wool layer passes federal flame testing on its own, which is the same approach Saatva and Avocado take and the opposite of the fiberglass-sock construction used in most sub-$800 boxed beds.
The Madison coil unit does more than the spec sheet suggests
Most 'zoned' coil units vary the coil count and call it a day. The Madison unit varies gauge: 16-gauge, 10-turn coils around the perimeter, 15-gauge 6-turn coils across the field, and 14.5-gauge coils through the centre third. Lower gauge means thicker wire and a stiffer spring, so the lumbar region resists compression more than the shoulders do.
The perimeter coils are the reason edge support scores well here. Cheaper hybrids ring the coil unit with a foam rail, which softens within a year and makes sitting on the edge feel precarious. Heavier-gauge perimeter coils do not do that.
A queen carries 1,148 coils and weighs 113 lb assembled. That weight is the practical downside — My Green recommends rotating quarterly, and it is a two-person job every time.
Who the medium-firm feel does and does not suit
The Natural Escape reads about 6 to 6.5 on our scale — medium-firm. Dunlop latex at 22–24 ILD is denser and less buoyant than the Talalay used in Zenhaven, so it feels supportive rather than springy, and it does not contour deeply the way memory foam does.
That is a good match for back sleepers, stomach sleepers, and most combination sleepers. It is a harder sell for lightweight side sleepers: at under about 140 lb you may not compress the latex enough to get shoulder relief, and My Green does not offer a soft version of this model. A 2-inch latex topper solves it for around $200, but factor that into the comparison.
The 365-night trial gives you room to find out. Latex takes three to four weeks to feel normal if you are coming from foam, so do not judge it in week one.

Customer Reviews
Certified organic without the Avocado price
We priced an Avocado Green at $2,499 and this at $1,682 with the same GOTS/GOLS certifications. Zero smell out of the box. My son's eczema flare-ups at night stopped within a month.
Edge support is legitimately good
Most beds this price use a foam rail and collapse when you sit on the side. The heavier perimeter coils hold. I am 240 lb and can sit on the edge to tie shoes without rolling off.
Firmer than I expected
I am a 130 lb side sleeper and it took about six weeks plus a latex topper before my shoulder was happy. Back sleepers in the house love it as-is. Wish they offered a soft version.

How We Tested the My Green Mattress Natural Escape
Every mattress we review goes through our rigorous, multi-step evaluation process. Here's exactly how we arrived at our scores for the My Green Mattress My Green Mattress Natural Escape.
Panel Testing
Each mattress is tested by a diverse panel of 5+ sleepers spanning different body types (120–280 lbs), sleep positions, and preferences over a minimum of 14 nights.
Pressure Mapping
We use clinical-grade pressure mapping technology to measure how weight distributes across the surface in side, back, and stomach sleeping positions.
Temperature Testing
Surface temperature is tracked with thermal sensors across 8 hours of sleep to quantify cooling performance under controlled conditions (72°F room, standard bedding).
Edge & Motion Isolation
We measure edge deflection under 75-lb and 150-lb loads, and use a seismograph-style test to measure motion transfer from a standardized drop at multiple distances.
Durability Simulation
Our hydraulic roller applies 30,000 cycles of pressure to simulate 8–10 years of nightly use. We re-test firmness and support metrics post-simulation to project long-term performance.
Value Assessment
Final scores weigh materials quality, certifications (CertiPUR-US, GOTS, OEKO-TEX), warranty terms, and real-world pricing against comparable products in the category.
