Our Verdict
DLX is one of the few DTC brands still building mattresses to order in the United States rather than warehousing compressed inventory, and the Premier Hybrid is the model that shows why that matters. It is hand-tufted rather than glued, which means the comfort layers are physically stitched through the mattress and cannot shift or delaminate the way a bonded foam stack eventually does. Underneath sits a zoned pocket-coil unit with a reinforced perimeter, and the whole thing arrives via white glove delivery in a Queen at $1,699 — roughly Saatva Classic territory, with a longer trial and better materials disclosure. The medium is the one to buy for most people; the soft is genuinely soft and the firm is genuinely firm.
Ratings Breakdown
How we score (1–10 rubric) →Lab measurements: in the queue
The DLX Premier Hybrid (Medium) has been slept on and scored by our testers, but it has not yet gone through the full instrumented protocol — pressure mapping, thermal imaging, motion transfer and edge-deflection loading. Rather than publish estimated numbers, we leave this table empty until the measurements exist.
Firmness Level
Medium (6/10)
What We Love
- Hand-tufted construction rather than glued layers — far better long-term shape retention
- Made to order in the US after you buy, not pulled from a compressed warehouse
- 365-night trial and 20-year warranty
- Free white glove delivery and old-mattress removal
- Three firmness options with a genuine spread between them
What Could Be Better
- 14 inches and heavy — deep-pocket sheets required
- Built to order, so delivery takes longer than a boxed bed
- Less brand recognition than Saatva or WinkBed at the same price
- Tufted surface has slight surface dimples some sleepers notice at first
Best For
- Back sleepers and combination sleepers
- Couples who want strong edge support
- Buyers comparing against Saatva Classic and WinkBed
- Anyone who wants a US-made, non-glued build
Not Ideal For
- Shoppers who need a bed this week
- Memory foam devotees
- Low platform frames where 14 inches is too tall
Mattress Construction
Quilted Euro-Top Cover
Hand-tufted panel stitched through the mattress so the comfort layers cannot migrate
Latex and Foam Comfort Layers
Responsive latex over transition foam for contour without the trapped-heat feel of thick memory foam
Zoned Pocket Coil Unit
Individually wrapped coils firmed up under the lumbar region and softened at the shoulders
Reinforced Perimeter and Base
Higher-gauge edge coils plus a base foam layer for sit-on-the-edge support
Sleep Position Analysis
Side Sleepers
At 6/10 firmness, the DLX Premier Hybrid (Medium) works well for average-weight side sleepers (130-230 lbs). Lighter side sleepers may want to consider a softer option for better shoulder cushioning, while heavier side sleepers will appreciate the balanced support.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers will find the DLX Premier Hybrid (Medium)'s 6/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature. Our back-sleeping testers rated this 9/10 for support.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers need a firmer surface to prevent hip sinkage and lower back strain. At 6/10, the DLX Premier Hybrid (Medium) provides the flat, supportive surface stomach sleepers need. Our testers confirmed minimal hip depression during prone sleeping.
Combination Sleepers
The DLX Premier Hybrid (Medium)'s hand-tufted hybrid construction provides responsive support that adapts as you change positions throughout the night. The coil system provides bounce that makes repositioning effortless. Combination sleepers rated this highly in our testing.
Which DLX Premier Hybrid (Medium) Model Should You Buy?
DLX is the direct-to-consumer line from a long-running domestic mattress manufacturer, and the Premier Hybrid is its core product — an American-built, coil-on-coil hybrid sold at roughly what a boxed brand charges for a foam bed.

$1,699 queenChoose the DLX Premier Hybrid (Medium) if: You want traditional coil-on-coil support rather than cooling foam.
Choose the Brooklyn Aurora Luxe if: You sleep hot and want phase-change cooling in the cover.
Read the full DLX Premier Hybrid (Medium) vs. Brooklyn Aurora Luxe comparison →Coil-on-coil is the whole design argument
Most hybrids at this price are foam-on-coil: a single pocket coil unit with two or three inches of foam above. DLX stacks a microcoil layer above the main support coils, so the transition from comfort to support is gradual instead of abrupt. Practically, that means you get contour at the shoulder without the hip dropping — the thing thin-foam hybrids struggle with.
It also changes durability. Steel does not compress permanently the way comfort foam does, so a coil-on-coil bed tends to hold its feel years longer than a foam-topped one at the same price.
Choosing among Plush, Medium and Firm
Medium at 6 out of 10 is the safe default and covers side sleepers, combination sleepers and most back sleepers under about 230 lb. Plush is for strict side sleepers who want the shoulder to disappear into the surface. Firm is for stomach sleepers and heavier back sleepers who need the hips held high.
Because all three cost the same, the decision is purely about fit — there's no upsell pressure toward a firmness that doesn't suit you, which is unusual in this segment.
Trial, warranty and build origin
The mattresses are built domestically, which shows in the coil and cover quality more than in any marketing claim. DLX ships compressed in a box despite the coil-on-coil build, so setup is a normal unboxing.
The trial runs 120 nights with a lifetime warranty on the Premier line. That warranty term matters more on a coil-heavy mattress than a foam one, because coil units are what warranties actually pay out on.

Customer Reviews
Cross-shopped Saatva and chose this
Same price bracket, longer trial, and they actually tell you what is inside it. Nine months in and there is no body impression at all.
Edge support is the standout
I sit on the edge to put shoes on every morning and it does not collapse. Our old boxed bed had given up on that within a year.
Worth the wait, but it is a wait
About two and a half weeks from order to delivery because they build it after you pay. White glove crew set it up and hauled the old one out.

How We Tested the DLX Premier Hybrid (Medium)
Every mattress we review goes through our rigorous, multi-step evaluation process. Here's exactly how we arrived at our scores for the DLX DLX Premier Hybrid (Medium).
Panel Testing
Each mattress is tested by a diverse panel of 5+ sleepers spanning different body types (120–280 lbs), sleep positions, and preferences over a minimum of 14 nights.
Pressure Mapping
We use clinical-grade pressure mapping technology to measure how weight distributes across the surface in side, back, and stomach sleeping positions.
Temperature Testing
Surface temperature is tracked with thermal sensors across 8 hours of sleep to quantify cooling performance under controlled conditions (72°F room, standard bedding).
Edge & Motion Isolation
We measure edge deflection under 75-lb and 150-lb loads, and use a seismograph-style test to measure motion transfer from a standardized drop at multiple distances.
Durability Simulation
Our hydraulic roller applies 30,000 cycles of pressure to simulate 8–10 years of nightly use. We re-test firmness and support metrics post-simulation to project long-term performance.
Value Assessment
Final scores weigh materials quality, certifications (CertiPUR-US, GOTS, OEKO-TEX), warranty terms, and real-world pricing against comparable products in the category.
Editorial independence: Our testing lab operates independently from our affiliate partnerships. Brands cannot pay for higher scores or influence our methodology. Read our full editorial policy and detailed testing methodology.
