Hästens began as a master saddler's workshop in 1852, and the material that made its saddles comfortable — hand-teased horsehair — remains the heart of every mattress it builds. The company has been family-run for six generations and is the official bed supplier to the Swedish Royal Court.

The Hästens philosophy rejects foam entirely. Every bed is a system of natural materials — horsehair, cotton, wool, flax, and slow-grown Swedish pine — layered by hand around pocket springs. A single bed takes over 100 hours of manual work, and the builder signs it.

The buying experience is deliberately old-school: no online checkout, no home trial. You visit a Hästens store or Sleep Spa, get fitted for spring tension, and commission the bed. The iconic blue-check cotton cover, designed in 1978, has become one of the most recognizable patterns in the bedding world.
