Vispring invented the individually pocketed coil spring in 1901 — the technology underneath nearly every quality mattress sold today. The company still hand-nests its springs in calico pockets in Plymouth, England, the same city where it began, and originally supplied beds for first-class ocean liner cabins including the Queen Mary.
The Vispring build is the classic English bed: hand-nested pocket springs, hand-teased British fleece wool and other natural fills, hand-tufted covers, and hand side-stitched borders. No foam, no glue laminations, no synthetic comfort layers anywhere in the range.

The mattresses are engineered as half of a two-part system. A Vispring divan contains its own spring layer that works with the mattress springs above it; on flat slats or a platform, the mattress loses both softness and some support. If you buy a Vispring mattress, budget for the matching divan or a properly sprung alternative.
