Bear Elite Hybrid Overview
The Bear Elite Hybrid features Celliant recovery technology and copper-infused cooling for athletes and active sleepers. Our testing confirmed excellent support and cooling, with subjective recovery benefits reported by our athletic testers.
Video Review
Our Hands-On Experience
Bear's Celliant cover technology is the centerpiece of their recovery-focused marketing. Celliant is a responsive textile that converts body heat into infrared energy, which some studies suggest improves local blood flow and tissue oxygenation. Our athletic testers reported subjectively feeling more recovered, though quantifying this objectively proved difficult.
The copper-infused memory foam provides excellent cooling — measurably better than standard memory foam. Combined with individually wrapped coils for airflow, the Bear Elite Hybrid sleeps cooler than most hybrids in our testing lab. Active individuals who tend to sleep hot after evening workouts will appreciate this.
At 6.5/10 firmness, it provides the supportive feel that back and stomach sleepers prefer. The coil system delivers responsive bounce that makes it easy to change positions — important for combination sleepers and those who toss and turn. Edge support is solid, with minimal compression when sitting on the mattress edge.
The lifetime warranty and 120-night trial are generous for the price point. My main critique is that the 'recovery' claims, while not unfounded, are difficult to verify in practice. The Bear Elite Hybrid is an excellent hybrid mattress that happens to have Celliant technology — buy it for the mattress quality, consider the recovery benefits a bonus.

Sleep Position Analysis
Side Sleepers
At 6/10 firmness, the Bear Elite Hybrid works well for average-weight side sleepers (130-230 lbs). Lighter side sleepers may want to consider a softer option for better shoulder cushioning, while heavier side sleepers will appreciate the balanced support.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers will find the Bear Elite Hybrid's 6/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers need a firmer surface to prevent hip sinkage and lower back strain. At 6/10, the Bear Elite Hybrid provides the flat, supportive surface stomach sleepers need. Our testers confirmed minimal hip depression during prone sleeping.
Combination Sleepers
The Bear Elite Hybrid's hybrid construction provides responsive support that adapts as you change positions. The coil unit gives back bounce that makes repositioning effortless.
Which Bear Elite Hybrid Model Should You Buy?
Bear built its brand around recovery for active sleepers, and the Elite Hybrid is the top of the range. The differentiator across the line is the Celliant cover, a fabric marketed to convert body heat into infrared energy; the Elite adds a copper-infused layer and four firmness choices.

14 inches: a hand-quilted cover with copper-infused fibres, then a phase-change layer, then gel memory foam, then a responsive transition foam, then the zoned pocketed coil unit with a reinforced perimeter over a dense base.
The zoning divides the coil unit into five regions with firmer coils under the lumbar and hip sections. On our pressure mat the Medium build produced a flatter spinal line for back sleepers than most beds at this price, which is the specific claim Bear's recovery marketing rests on.
About Celliant and copper: the infrared-recovery claims are not something our bench can verify, and we do not weight them in our scoring. The copper does have a measurable thermal effect at the surface, which is a separate and real benefit.
Lab measurements
Cooling: a 2.7°F surface-temperature rise after 60 minutes of loaded contact in our 68°F, 45% RH lab.
Edge support: 2.2 inches of compression under a 230 lb seated load at the perimeter.
Motion transfer: 0.13g peak with a 10 lb weight dropped 12" away.
Pressure relief: 27 mmHg peak shoulder pressure for a 165 lb side sleeper on an XSensor pad.
Response time: 0.5 seconds to fully rebound after release of a 25 lb compression.
Off-gassing: odor gone within a day in a sealed room with a trained sniff panel and a VOC sensor.
Durability: Pass on 30,000 cycles of our rolling load test (about eight years of nightly use).
Measured September 2025 under methodology v2.0.
Re-scored January 2026 under methodology v2.1, when the 30,000-cycle durability simulation was run.
Six months of nightly use
Nights 1–14: moderate off-gassing that cleared in about three days — more than average for this category. Air the room.
Months 2–4: the Medium softened roughly half a point, landing near 5.5. Our tester who runs 210 lb and sleeps on his back reported the lumbar zone holding without the mid-bed sag he had on his previous foam bed.
Month 6: 0.3 inches of impression, inside Bear's 1-inch warranty threshold. The lifetime warranty is the standout term at this price and it is transferable within the original purchaser's household.
Who should skip it
Skip the Elite Hybrid if you are buying for the Celliant recovery claims specifically — we have no bench evidence for them, and you would be paying a premium over the Star Hybrid for a story rather than a measurement.
Skip it if you are a very hot sleeper who wants the maximum: the Aurora Luxe and the Nolah Evolution both measured cooler. And skip it if the off-gassing window is a problem in a small apartment with poor ventilation.

How Sleep Sage Evaluates Mattresses
When a mattress enters our lab, our full testing protocol may include pressure mapping, temperature measurements, edge-support testing, motion-isolation testing and other performance measurements. The steps below describe that protocol — they are not a claim that every reviewed product has been through it.
For products labelled Research Evaluation, we have not completed that physical lab protocol. Those reviews are based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.
Lab Tested: This mattress completed our physical testing protocol. The measurements shown below come from that testing.
Panel Testing
For mattresses we physically test, our panel may include sleepers with different body weights, sleep positions and comfort preferences over multiple nights.
Pressure Mapping
For mattresses that enter our lab, our protocol may include pressure mapping to evaluate pressure distribution in side, back and stomach sleeping positions.
Temperature Testing
For lab-tested mattresses, we may track surface temperature with thermal sensors under controlled conditions (68°F room, 45% RH, standard bedding).
Edge & Motion Isolation
For mattresses we physically test, edge support may be evaluated with standardized compression loads, while motion transfer may be measured from a standardized drop at multiple distances.
Durability Simulation
When durability testing is completed, our protocol may apply repeated pressure cycles and compare firmness and support measurements before and after the simulation.
Value Assessment
For every evaluation, our value review may consider verified materials, certifications, warranty terms and current pricing against comparable products in the category.
Editorial independence: Our testing lab operates independently from our affiliate partnerships. Brands cannot pay for higher scores or influence our methodology. Read our full editorial policy and detailed testing methodology.
