Big Fig fills a crucial gap in the mattress industry. Most mattresses are designed for the 'average' sleeper weighing 130-230 lbs, leaving heavier individuals with inadequate support and accelerated wear. Big Fig engineers specifically for 300+ lb sleepers, and it shows in every design decision.
The reinforced edge support is the best I've tested across any weight class. A 280-lb tester sat directly on the edge with minimal compression, while most competitors showed 4-5 inches of collapse. The extra-strength coils and perimeter reinforcement make the entire mattress surface usable.
At 7/10 firmness, it's firmer than most — by design. Heavier bodies compress mattresses more, so what feels 'firm' for a 150-lb person might feel 'medium' for a 300-lb person. Our plus-size testers consistently described the feel as 'supportive but not hard,' which is exactly the target.
The included free foundation is a smart inclusion. Many standard foundations aren't rated for the combined weight of a heavier sleeper plus this robust mattress. The comfort layer is latex rather than memory foam, because latex resists permanent compression under sustained high load in a way polyfoam does not. Under it sits a high-density transition and a coil unit with heavier-gauge wire throughout, not just at the perimeter. The whole system — mattress plus foundation — is rated to 1,100 lb.

Buy the foundation
The 1,100 lb rating applies to the complete system. Putting the mattress on a standard slatted platform voids the weight rating and, in practice, is where most warranty claims in this category originate. Budget for both.
The tradeoff is feel. At 7/10 with a thin latex comfort layer, side sleepers under about 230 lb will find it too firm — this bed is not designed for them, and buying it for a mixed-weight couple usually leaves the lighter partner unhappy. In that case look at a split king or the WinkBed Plus.
