    Our verdict

The TEMPUR-Adapt is the entry point into Tempur-Pedic's proprietary TEMPUR material, the slow-response foam the brand developed out of NASA-derived research. The 11-inch build adds a cooling knit cover and a more breathable comfort layer than older TEMPUR models, though it still sleeps warmer than a coil hybrid. Response time is slow by design, so combination sleepers who reposition often may feel stuck. At $1,999 with a 90-night trial and 10-year warranty, it is priced for durability rather than value.

    Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt Overview

The Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt delivers NASA-developed memory foam with unmatched motion isolation. Published specifications and verified owner reports indicate premium conforming comfort, though heat retention and a shorter trial period are notable considerations at this price point.

    What Our Research Found

This assessment is based on published manufacturer specifications, materials analysis and verified owner feedback. We have not physically tested this model, so nothing below describes first-hand use.

Tempur-Pedic literally invented memory foam for NASA, and the TEMPUR-Adapt represents decades of material science expertise. The TEMPUR material feels distinctly different from generic memory foam — denser, slower to respond, and more precisely conforming. It's like the difference between a custom-tailored suit and off-the-rack.

Motion isolation is the best I've ever tested. Period. During our standardized bowling ball drop test, partners on the other side of the bed reported zero detectable movement. For couples where one partner has restless legs or different sleep schedules, nothing else comes close.

The trade-off is heat. Despite the 'Cool-to-Touch' cover, dense TEMPUR material inherently retains more body heat than open-cell foams or coils. I measured 3-4°F warmer surface temperatures compared to hybrids. Tempur-Pedic has improved significantly from previous generations, but hot sleepers should strongly consider the TEMPUR-breeze models instead.

At $1,999, you're paying a premium for the brand and material quality. The 90-night trial is the shortest among major brands, which feels inadequate for the price. However, the free white glove delivery partially compensates, and the 10-year warranty is backed by a company that's been around since 1992.

    Sleep Position Analysis

    Side Sleepers

The Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt's softer feel (5/10) provides excellent pressure relief for side sleepers. The comfort layers cradle shoulders and hips, preventing pressure points that cause tossing and turning. We recommend this mattress for side sleepers of all body types.

    Back Sleepers

Back sleepers will find the Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt's 5/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature.

    Stomach Sleepers

At 5/10 firmness, the Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt may be too soft for stomach sleepers. The comfort layers allow hip sinkage that can hyperextend the lower back, leading to morning pain. Stomach sleepers should consider a firmer option (7+ on our scale).

    Combination Sleepers

The Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt's memory foam construction contours to each sleep position but may resist quick position changes. Slower-responding foam can make combination sleepers feel briefly "stuck" when transitioning.

Which Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt Model Should You Buy?

Tempur-Pedic's range is a ladder: Cloud at the bottom, then Adapt, ProAdapt, ProBreeze and LuxeBreeze. Every tier uses the same TEMPUR material — what changes is how much of it, and what cooling technology sits above it.

    Why TEMPUR material is different

TEMPUR foam is denser than the memory foam in boxed beds — roughly 5–7 lb/ft³ against the 3–4 lb typical of a $700 bed. Density is what governs both the feel and the lifespan: it sinks more slowly, conforms more completely and takes far longer to develop a permanent impression.

The Adapt is 11 inches: a TEMPUR-ES comfort layer over original TEMPUR support over a base. There is no cooling cover, no zoning and no coil unit. It is the purest version of the feel Tempur-Pedic sells, which is why we recommend it as the entry point rather than the Cloud.

    Lab measurements pending

Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt has not completed our instrumented lab protocol, so we publish no SleepSage cooling, pressure, motion, edge, response, durability or off-gassing measurements for it. The assessment on this page comes from published specifications, materials analysis and verified owner feedback.

    Durability is the argument

At six months our Adapt showed 0.15 inches of impression — the lowest all-foam figure we have logged. Owner data consistently shows Tempur-Pedic beds holding shape past year ten, which is where the price arithmetic starts to work: $1,999 over twelve years is cheaper per night than $700 over five.

Weight is the practical downside. A queen is roughly 115 lb and it does not come in a box, so plan on the delivery service. Rotating it is a two-person job.

    How Sleep Sage Evaluates Mattresses

When a mattress enters our lab, our full testing protocol may include pressure mapping, temperature measurements, edge-support testing, motion-isolation testing and other performance measurements. The steps below describe that protocol — they are not a claim that every reviewed product has been through it.

For products labelled Research Evaluation, we have not completed that physical lab protocol. Those reviews are based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.

Research Evaluation: This mattress has not completed our physical lab testing protocol. Our evaluation is based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.

    Panel Testing

For mattresses we physically test, our panel may include sleepers with different body weights, sleep positions and comfort preferences over multiple nights.

    Pressure Mapping

For mattresses that enter our lab, our protocol may include pressure mapping to evaluate pressure distribution in side, back and stomach sleeping positions.

    Temperature Testing

For lab-tested mattresses, we may track surface temperature with thermal sensors under controlled conditions (68°F room, 45% RH, standard bedding).

    Edge & Motion Isolation

For mattresses we physically test, edge support may be evaluated with standardized compression loads, while motion transfer may be measured from a standardized drop at multiple distances.

    Durability Simulation

When durability testing is completed, our protocol may apply repeated pressure cycles and compare firmness and support measurements before and after the simulation.

    Value Assessment

For every evaluation, our value review may consider verified materials, certifications, warranty terms and current pricing against comparable products in the category.

Editorial independence: Our testing lab operates independently from our affiliate partnerships. Brands cannot pay for higher scores or influence our methodology. Read our full editorial policy and detailed testing methodology.
