    Our verdict

The Helix Midnight Elite is the Elite-tier version of Helix's best-selling Midnight: a 15-inch, ten-layer medium-feel hybrid with the GlacioTex Elite cooling cover and CoolForce layer included, a microcoil layer between high-density foams, an extra-firm ErgoAlign section under the hips and an 8-inch pocketed coil base with reinforced perimeter. It is the most mattress Helix sells under the Midnight name — and at $3,278 queen it costs roughly three times the Core Midnight and 75% more than the Midnight Luxe.

    Helix Midnight Elite Overview

The Helix Midnight Elite is the 15-inch, ten-layer top of Helix's Midnight line at $3,278 queen: GlacioTex Elite cooling cover and CoolForce layer included, SupremeSupport 7.0 memory foam, a microcoil layer, ErgoAlign lumbar reinforcement and an 8-inch pocketed coil base. Medium feel, 120-night trial, limited lifetime warranty.

    What Our Research Found

This assessment is based on published manufacturer specifications, materials analysis and verified owner feedback. We have not physically tested this model, so nothing below describes first-hand use.

The Midnight Elite is a specific model, not the Elite collection. Helix sells Elite-tier versions of several beds — Dawn, Dusk, Twilight, Sunset, Moonlight and Midnight — and they differ in firmness and zoning. This page covers the Midnight Elite: the medium-feel, side-sleeper-leaning one, 15 inches tall with ten layers.

The step up from the Midnight Luxe is real but expensive. You get the GlacioTex Elite cover and CoolForce layer as standard, a denser SupremeSupport 7.0 memory foam, a microcoil layer above the main coil unit, and the ErgoAlign extra-firm section under the hips. At $3,278 queen against $1,874 for the Luxe, that is roughly $1,400 for cooling and comfort-layer depth — not for more support.

Two practical notes before ordering. It is 15 inches tall and around 172 pounds in a queen, so you will need deep-pocket sheets and help moving it. And Helix's trial is 120 nights, shorter than the year you get from Nectar, DreamCloud or Saatva — worth weighing if you are a slow decider.

Who should still buy it: hot sleepers who already know they like the Midnight feel and want the most cooling Helix builds into a mattress, and couples who want a tall, firm-edged bed that does not roll you toward the middle.

    • Zoned lumbar reinforcement and full perimeter edge coils
    • Medium feel that keeps side-sleeper pressure relief without losing support
    • Limited lifetime warranty

    What Could Be Better

    • $3,278 queen — a very large step up from the $1,874 Midnight Luxe
    • 15 inches tall and around 172 lb in queen; deep-pocket sheets required
    • 120-night trial is shorter than the year Nectar, Saatva and DreamCloud give you
    • Only one feel (medium) in this model

    Best For

    • Side and combination sleepers who want a plush-but-supported medium feel
    • Hot sleepers who want maximum cooling built in
    • Couples who want strong edges and a tall, hotel-style profile
    • Buyers who already like the Midnight feel and want the best version of it

    • Strict stomach sleepers who need a firm surface
    • People who want a long trial window before committing

    Mattress Construction

    1

    GlacioTex Elite cooling cover

Heat-conductive cover fabric that draws warmth away from the sleeping surface.

    2

    CoolForce layer

A heat-transfer layer applied directly to the upper foam. Helix states testing shows it keeps sleepers four degrees cooler.

    3

    Gel memory foam comfort layer

Cushions and contours with a cooler-sleeping gel foam.

    4

    SupremeSupport 7.0 memory foam

Helix's highest-density memory foam — the brand states roughly double the density of the 4.0 foam used in the Luxe.

    5

    Microcoil layer

Individually wrapped steel microcoils sandwiched between high-density foams for pressure distribution and motion control.

    6

Custom firmness + side-sleeper support foams

Helix Premium Responsive Foam tuned to the medium feel, with an additional layer aimed at shoulder and hip pressure for side sleepers.

    7

    ErgoAlign contour layer

Extra-firm foam placed under the hips to limit lumbar sag.

    8

    Pocketed coil base (8")

Up to 1,000 individually wrapped coils with reinforced hip support and full perimeter reinforcement.

    9

    DuraDense base foam

High-density foundation layer that anchors the coil unit.

    Sleep Position Analysis

    Side Sleepers

At 6/10 firmness, the Helix Midnight Elite works well for average-weight side sleepers (130-230 lbs). Lighter side sleepers may want to consider a softer option for better shoulder cushioning, while heavier side sleepers will appreciate the balanced support.

    Back Sleepers

Back sleepers will find the Helix Midnight Elite's 6/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature.

    Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers need a firmer surface to prevent hip sinkage and lower back strain. At 6/10, the Helix Midnight Elite provides the flat, supportive surface stomach sleepers need.

    Combination Sleepers

The Helix Midnight Elite's hybrid construction provides responsive support that adapts as you change positions. The coil unit gives back bounce that makes repositioning effortless.

Which Helix Midnight Elite Model Should You Buy?

Helix sells the Midnight at three tiers, and Elite is the top one. The Elite name also applies to other Helix models — Dawn Elite, Dusk Elite, Twilight Elite and so on — which are different firmnesses of the same tier, not versions of this bed. Queen pricing is Helix's current price at verification.

Midnight Elite is a model, not the Elite collection

Helix organises its line-up into Core, Luxe and Elite tiers, and applies each tier across several named beds. Midnight is the medium-feel, side-sleeper-oriented one. So the Midnight Elite is the Elite build of the Midnight feel — while a Dawn Elite is the same tier tuned firmer for back and stomach sleepers.

If you arrived looking for a general Helix Elite comparison, the tier is what you are comparing: 15 inches, ten layers, GlacioTex Elite cover, CoolForce layer, denser memory foam and a microcoil layer above the main coil unit. The feel is what the model name tells you.

What $1,400 over the Midnight Luxe actually buys

Four things, by Helix's own specification: the GlacioTex Elite cooling cover and CoolForce layer as standard rather than a paid upgrade; SupremeSupport 7.0 memory foam, which Helix states is roughly double the density of the 4.0 foam in the Luxe; a microcoil layer between high-density foams; and the ErgoAlign extra-firm section under the hips.

Notice what is not on that list: the support core. Both beds use a pocketed coil unit with reinforced perimeter and lumbar zoning. You are buying cooling technology, comfort-layer depth and denser foam — not more support. For a lot of shoppers that makes the Luxe the better value, and we say so plainly.

    Cooling claims, stated accurately

Helix describes CoolForce as a heat-transfer layer applied directly to the upper foam and states testing shows it keeps sleepers four degrees cooler. That is Helix's claim about its own layer, and we report it as such. We have not run this mattress through a thermal protocol, so we publish no SleepSage temperature figure for it.

Structurally, the case for cooling is strong: a conductive cover, a dedicated heat-transfer layer, and two coil systems creating airflow paths through a 15-inch stack. Hot sleepers are the clearest audience for this bed.

    Living with a 15-inch, 172-pound mattress

Height has practical consequences. Standard fitted sheets will not stay on a 15-inch mattress — you need deep-pocket sheets. On a tall bed frame, the sleeping surface can end up higher than is comfortable to get into, so measure before ordering. Helix lists the queen at around 172 pounds, which is a two-person job to move.

Helix offers in-home setup and old-mattress removal as a paid add-on. On a bed this heavy it is worth pricing that into the decision rather than treating it as optional.

    How Sleep Sage Evaluates Mattresses

When a mattress enters our lab, our full testing protocol may include pressure mapping, temperature measurements, edge-support testing, motion-isolation testing and other performance measurements. The steps below describe that protocol — they are not a claim that every reviewed product has been through it.

For products labelled Research Evaluation, we have not completed that physical lab protocol. Those reviews are based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.

Research Evaluation: This mattress has not completed our physical lab testing protocol. Our evaluation is based on verified construction, manufacturer specifications, policies, comparative analysis and available owner feedback.

    Panel Testing

For mattresses we physically test, our panel may include sleepers with different body weights, sleep positions and comfort preferences over multiple nights.

    Pressure Mapping

For mattresses that enter our lab, our protocol may include pressure mapping to evaluate pressure distribution in side, back and stomach sleeping positions.

    Temperature Testing

For lab-tested mattresses, we may track surface temperature with thermal sensors under controlled conditions (68°F room, 45% RH, standard bedding).

    Edge & Motion Isolation

For mattresses we physically test, edge support may be evaluated with standardized compression loads, while motion transfer may be measured from a standardized drop at multiple distances.

    Durability Simulation

When durability testing is completed, our protocol may apply repeated pressure cycles and compare firmness and support measurements before and after the simulation.

    Value Assessment

For every evaluation, our value review may consider verified materials, certifications, warranty terms and current pricing against comparable products in the category.

Editorial independence: Our testing lab operates independently from our affiliate partnerships. Brands cannot pay for higher scores or influence our methodology. Read our full editorial policy and detailed testing methodology.
